Plaskett reservations;

http://www.recreation.gov/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70161

if it is not allowing reservations it's first come first serve, they leave spots open for drive ups. Get there earlier in the week.

OK.  I'm in spot # 41. I live a little over an hour away, and can bring extra camping stuff, too.  My spot says 2 vehicles.  So, if you want to share, let me know.  I wont' get there until Friday night.  Got to work! Assuming I still have a job.  Mike

Here's an update: unfortunately, Stéphane won't be able to make it; Unlike me, he's a reasonable guy and he knows that spending over 2000 € for a few days in California doesn't mix very well with a mortgage on the house he just bought.

I checked with the airline (Delta) about the cost of bringing one or two boards with me and it just made me cough (not far from what it costs to make one, we're talking longboards here). I will do it anyway but it's just a rip-off...

Is there something that you guys would like me to bring for swapping?

How about bringing me one of the beautiful French women that I see pictures of sunbathing on the beach.  If she doesn't have a wardrobe it's ok; I've got a T-shirt she can borrow.  I'll give you a nice longboard for your effort.  That way you wouldn't have to bring one.

Yes that's true, I cant decently ask my wife and daughter not ot spend a lot of money all year long and try to save as much as we can in order to do some work in our house, and on the other end I would spend all the saving account in one of the most beautiful week of my life, cruising down in a van with Balsa to meet all you guys !! My wife would not say much if I order a new board, but this a little to much.

But since, there has not been a single day I haven't thought to call Balsa back and tell him that we'll fly together !!!

2011 will be our 5 anniversery, maybe it will be a nice presnt for the family !!!

in the meantime, make a lot of photos, vidéos and share them, Balsa if you can just bring me back a litlle "souvenir" .

Aaaaaaaaahhh, unfortunately Mcding, french women NEVER travel without their wardrobes; And when I say "wardrobe", I mean about a dozen king-sized suitcases. Excess luggage fees would be at least three times higher than the one for carrying boards. I'm afraid I can't afford it...

...I've had some really good days at Sanddollar Beach. Small clean rights pealling just fine for my eggs and longboards....

Look at the set up....this is not a small wave spot....Buyer beware.....Ask Surf4fins about the quiver he surfed last year and you might understand........It's not San Onofre........We all have fun no matter what.......More food Mark.!...

Like Ray said you don't know what you have till you get there, it's been 4-5 feet to 18-20feet. But you can always count on a good time with good friends and lots of beer and food, you noticed how I put Beer first.

Can't wait Mark

If I were you, I'd travel light and cheap.

If you bring anything with you perhaps you can pack my board, I will pay the fees (but then I lose my excuse for a return trip, so this may require some soul searching).

I have a number of boards that you can use while you are here, D fin longboard, Hynson HII single fin, some hulls and some odd shorter boards.

Plus, once you get up to the campground, you'll find a ton more boards you can use...the SF/SB guys can set you up with equipment for the second leg and/or you can take one of mine all the way up with you and I can have a friend store it for me up there.

There are ample shops around here were you could pick up something used for your trip as well...

I can't believe I waited so long to check out this thread. Fortunately, a kind soul was nice enough to give me a heads up earlier and we were able to grab a site. The Matsuno family (Lillibel) will be joining us again this year so I can't wait to see what kind of beautiful boards Jeff will be bringing. We'll be in site #39 and promise to bring plenty of beer. I'll also bring a huge pot of chorizo chili beans so first come, first served. Will also bring a couple of my goofy shortboards, items for trade and hopefully, a new SrPato 8'6" gun. Also included is a used SrPato 6' round pin quad for the big boys.( Anyone over 200 lbs.) So if you have anything for trade, let me know.

Balsa-----------I had to try.  About bringing boards though;  I'll have several with me and others will too.  So i'm sure you could use one while you are here.  If you bring one you may be able to sell it here before you leave.  Otherwise you could consign it in a shop and save yourself the air freight back.  I know of a shop in Santa Cruz.   Lowel

Lowel, thanks for the offer and infos. I want to thank you all, BTW, as I've received a huge number of PMs from many people, all offering to lend me boards during my trip. This is very much appreciated and of course I will be glad to try numerous boards when I'm there but I want to bring a few boards of mine for you to try, too.

My daughter checks in to Stanford the week before, and I'll probably go over. I'd be there if the timing was better, but I'd have to be in CA longer than I can afford to.

all selfishness and personal agenda aside, you should factor in the the notion that there is a distinct chance that we get skunked for surf (at plaskett).

no one has mentioned this yet...I surfed twice last year and it was only out of sheer grit (and to try to keep up with Melville and LeeV)

the year before was gorgeous every day...the year before that they had rain the entire weekend...the year before that...

plus, factor in murphy's law here:

if you bring boards, there will be no surf

if you do not bring boards, the surf will be EPIC

thanks guys, i will. hangin out around the campfire is my favorite. i just remember laughing almost non-stop last year...

my wife had a good time when she came in '07 and is looking forward to this trip. everyone is very welcoming...

it was mentioned to me by another Swaylocker that it would be easier to convince his wife to come if she knew that she wouldn't be the only one. so...

Howzit John, I will be on the mainland when this years is happening. But if all the sites are taken it looks like there is no more room. I have a nice truck with a cmper shell and am wonderig if sleeping in it would be OK. Can't surf yet but it would be nice to meet fellow Sway brothers. That time of year is out of season I would think, do they have a motel at Big Sur, only been through there one in my life and it was a blur. Aloha,Kokua

With most of my fav Swaylockian friends showing up(not to mention Balsa coming) I might have to make the trip up! Even if only for a day!

So...can I park my car at somebodies site?

p.s. Balsa...I live 10 minutes from LAX. I would be honored to come pick you up if you are in need.

Actually...any of you guys coming in to LAX may feel free to hit me up!

Howzit jt1, Not realsure just yet. Want to do a road trip and if that happens will most likely be traveing south but it could be the opposite or might not make it at all. I still have some problems whe it comes to eating that need to be addressed soon unless I can get an inverter to run a blender since my throat is still feeling trauma from Radiation and have trouble eating with dentures and swallowing rome the radiation. Eat a lot of yogurt and there are liquid foods also but the thought of eating fish tacos or any thing else is what I dream about a lot. I did eat a hambuger and a taco a ouple of weeks back but had to wash down every bite due to a constrcted throat. Quality of life changed since cancer ops and Rad treatments but still alive and kicking as well as possible. Aloha,Kokua

Keeping with Ray's enthusiasm and propensity for trading; I will bring two boards that will need new homes.

The first is Ray's Biofoam, resin tinted, 6'3" egg that was passed on to me last year. I've had a good time riding this past year in all types of waves and have even loaned it out to a couple of friends that enjoyed it. The board is still in great condition, and ding free at this point. I'll include the fin setup shown in the pic.

Next is my 6' Big Boy quad. It's a slightly undershaped, oversized beach break charger for the larger surfer. If you're in the 200 lbs plus range you'll love this. I'm 185 and have had one helluva good time on it but then again I'm not shy about board thickness. (Must be my longboarding background.) Also included are the Speed Dialer fins that Rooster passed on to me. They are a much better match than the LB1/LB4's in the pic. It's hard to believe that a shaping mistake could turn into a real gem to ride.

Will also bring my hardwood, hotwire bow. I'm done with cutting my own eps blanks but I'm sure someone here can use it. I'll post pics of it later. And of course I will have another box of fins to rummage through. So come on folks, let's make some trades!!!

It's strictly veterans. And we don't like newbies.

Kidding. Of course, everybody is welcome. You'll just have to check with someone who already has a reservation though, as I think it's all booked up.

Todd, just saw your message, sorry to reply so late: thank you so much for the offer but Afoaf insisted a long time ago to help me out when we land in LAX. I hope to see you up there, though!

note, I have begun accumulating firewood...keep those wood scraps.

I should be able to loot the stash at the cabin since most of it is getting on in age and won't be burned for years anywho.

that oughta cover us for a couple nights at the group fire.
