2 of my creations came home today. I made the balsa board in 2006 and it was my favorite board for a while. I think I was at least 10, maybe 15 pounds lighter then. The board is 8' x 21" x 2" and I ended up giving it a friend's daughter. She was very petite so I thought it'd be great for her. I also made the green booard with her in mind around 2009, it's also 8' long but only about 19" wide and at the most 2.5" thick. I made it to learn about pigs. I gave both of these to my friend's daughter about 9 years ago.
She moved to the east coast a while back and left them with her dad. Sadly he has parkinson's and is preparing to move into assisted living housing. I'll be holdling onto these babies along with her hand shaped Takayama Noah Ka Oi comp board. I'm hoping that one day she will use them again. She's a few years older than my girls and was a role model for them.
So far I've only made boards for myself, family, and few specials for friends and fund raisers.
Years ago, I gave her a board I originally made for Bernie. It came back with a broken glassed on fin, and she asked if I could put removeable fins in it. I gave her the 2 boards to keep her until she could get the other one fixed.
When I tried to repair the board, I used a 7" disc sander with a grinder pad. Bernie had just given me the sander and I had no business learning how to use it on that board. I ended up sanding through the lam and it destroyed me. I was so upset I put it away, and almost 10 years later, I still haven't fixed it. Now I have until September to get my act together and fix it because she's going to come back to visit her dad. I would like to have it ready for her to see even if she ends up leaving it here.
Slight nelly to single concave too double with V out the Back.
Glassed on hand fiiled Bamboo fins, place similar to the Quartet lay out, i miss alligned the small rear quads but i really like it. They have the smae toe in as the fronts....
Its quite foiled in the nose and tail, and the rails are performance orientated, there pretty slim.
Finished it off with a beaked Nose, bamboo and roving leash loop. Rr bio resin with 4×6 S glass on top and 4oz s glass on the bottom of a PU blank.
Shout out to Gdaddy pushing me in this direction a while back
Nice work, but we seem to have slipped up on what is what. Fish do not have rounded or square tails; they have “Fish Tails”. “Eggs” do not have pointy noses.
Picked this blank up a while back, it was machine shaped but had gone through the machine squuewif so i chopped it down, squared it up and made it right
Made it 9'2, 22.85" x 3". Really knifey 50:50 rails with a super short sharp edge on a rounded pin tail. Has a concave nose blended to flat too double out the tail. Rail nummbers were 4" nose and 5.5" tail with a nice kick out the last 12". Regretted the pin line and epoxy on PU, but its holding up well!
Been out in 1' to 4', even surfed a little wedge on it which was fun!!! It turns really well, its a litttle less traditional than i hoped, but the tail lock in and it encourages an active surf! Just piked up a wegner 11.25" pivot fin to see if it helps on the nose. Next one will ve flatter and wider!
its got a single starting pretty far up, to double through the tail, almost like soft channels past the fin. pretty deep. thanks
cold water, warm heart

Good story. I like making boards for friends and sometimes giving them away.

Latest board to finish!
This is a 6'4 egg! 20.5" wide and 2.75" thick
Nose and tail were both 15.5"
4.25" nose rocker and 2.25" tail.
Slight nelly to single concave too double with V out the Back.

Ya, first world problems
SD, that multi striped board took some patience.
Is that your cardboard build? Also requiring some patience.
