McDing trying to get a great free swell forecasting app noticed when competing with massive big business forecasting types - I have 20 years of Swell Forecasting experience - titled above (Swell Forecasting 101) and happy to answer and direct a discussion about that subject - such as "fetch," "Shoaling" . . .
joined the forum just to push your app?
If someone really wants to understand swell modeling, as well as build their own predictor for their local, no better place to do so than Stomsurf.com, which is both extremely informative and free of charge...learn that site, and monitoring the MJO will become part of the daiy routine..
Good luck with your app launch, maybe drop in once in a while and discuss surfboards..
Stomsurf has some things that are good but misses out on one really big advantage that oldmanwaves.com has and, most places can't do this even the big boys.
It is a lot of work but it is my passion!
Icc - try it if you have an iPhone - let me know what you think
two different deals..
your app is designed to spoon feed surfers 'peak'moments at their local..
Stormsurf reports on the conditions generating swells, what is brewing offshore,...and in his Quikcasts projects the expected arrival...Stormsurf was originally started by Mark decades ago as a password protected prediction site for Mavfanatics (Mark charges)...since the insider crew kept handing the passwords to their friends, he decided to open it up to one and all..
I've got an app allergy as it is...makes for interesting conversations with my son, who is a director on the Android team at Google...
as it is, this crusty elder believe that any surfer worth his salt, knowing what swell is in the water, winds and tides, what's up with the local sandbars, etc, should know where to be and when to be there...
Thanks, our UI is designed for your average surfer, older surfer, and the local surfer
Wow! I guess I scared the monitors awhile back. What is everybody taking a nap? Send this off to E&B. This site is on life support anyway. You’re not likely to pick up much biz here.
Thaks McDing - There is a Donation link there if you like to donate also try this site
Tell me what you think of this one?

Ouch. Hoping to turn that around a bit in 2020, Swaylock's 20th anniversary year!

“That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”
Thanks SammA - I have some users with a different point of view and that is good. They live 50 min or more from the beach and look for an accurate alternative - oldmanwaves.com provides that. They have personally told me that trucking to the beach is no longer a waste-of-time or a guessing game
Lets have a discussion about Swell Forecasting 101 - I will start it off with a question: How important is Swell Period in predicting swells at you local break? How does the tide at your local surfing hole affect it as well?
I'll give you an example - Every break is unique - How would this example affect your local break? Does this happen at your break?
4ft @ 10 seconds = 6ft breaking waves
4ft @ 20 seconds = 9ft breaking waves
• Doubling the period gives about a 50% increase in the height of the breaking waves from the same sized swell.
