WRV Doyle Shape?

Who would be the M Doyle who shaped for WRV? A friend picked up a ‘mini classic’ Da Cat shaped by him. Plan shape looks like a scaled down replica of a Noll Cat, but the deck has a typical step like a Yater Spoon rather than the scooped out style found on actual Noll Cats.

Mike Doyle?

His first name could be Mike, but I doubt it’s the same guy who rode for Hansen back in the 60s.

The person who owns the board guessed it was the Doyle from So Cal, but I seriously doubt it.

I’m sure it is NOT the Mike Doyle associated with Hansen Surfboards.

Yeah; I think that’s Iron Mike’s signature.

Compare it to these:

Any pics of the whole board? What year you think it was shaped? 80s, 90s?

The Hansen Mike Doyle Moved To San Jose Del Cabo Mexico in 1980, it’s on his website: https://www.mikedoyle.com/history

The WRV Mike Doyle was still making boards in the 80s: https://www.surfboardhoard.com/wave-riding-vehicles-wrv-thruster-by-mike-doyle-early-1980s/

Pretty sure I had a WRV 6’8" round pin thruster shaped by M. Doyle in the late 80’s.

Didn’t click until I saw the signature in the first post.

Nope. Totally different guy with the same name. The WRV shaper is from the east coast.

No pics other than what I posted. I can probably get more when I see my friend again. She’s at the beach just about every day, as am I.

I emailed WRV and they confirmed what I was pretty certain of. The guy who shaped this board is from the east coast.

No relation at all to the other Mike Doyle.

Good detective work, Sammy.      Good work.

Yeah you guys are a couple of real “Sherlocks”.
