Fin Help for Wife

Looking for insight on fin selection for the wife’s longboard I’m currently glassing.

She is brand new to surfing and never surfed. I shaped her an 8’8" x 15 3/4 x 23" x 15 1/2 x 2 7/8" longboard to start out. This will be my very first shaping experience so it may not be correct, but will see how it goes and learn from it for her next one. It has a flat entry to tri plane hull to slight vee to flat past the fin with chined rails. NR = 4.25" and TR = 2.5".

After much deliberation and reading I decided on a single fin as she won’t be on edge or looking for anything aggressive, but just wants to enjoy the flow of the wave with smooth turns and smaller surf < 3’.

I really want the board to work well for her so she enjoys her first experience so any recommendations for a fin would be very appreciated. She’s 5’10" @ 130 lbs. The board has a squashed 6" tail with pulled in nose. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Oh… and not looking for any nose riding specials just yet

Directional stability and safety are the priorities for a noob surfer.    It’s easy to accidentally land on a fin when you’re just starting out.

Yup, that’s probably your best bet.  Most conscientious Surf Schools use them for just that reason.

bought a bunch of these for anyone I was send a board to that was a beginner flexy and cheap. Dave’s Surfco fins are the safest though
