I agree with your observations. And yet, . . . I find it oddly intriguing. Like I kinda think I get what they’re trying to do.
The outline is slightly reminiscent of a design whose name I dare not utter from many many moons ago.

It does look like the fins are wrapped in innegra and it also looks like several layers of innergra on the deck and getting foiled onto the wings.
