I need advice on buying a board. I'm 6'0, 195 lbs, and after working in the ent biz for 4 years I've gotten a bit out of shape and lazy. I surf mainly in the LA county area and my fav spots are county line, heavens, porto, and surfrider. I'm a pretty good surfer and I'm about up to the skill level of busting airs, but I've been out of the loop for 4 to 5 years. What size board do you think I need? What do you think about the retro quads from Mollusk surf shop? And, it helps to have a board that you barely have to paddle to catch waves. Let me know and please don't leave back negative comments.
So I can get this right, you're out of shape, slightly overweight, lazy, don't like to paddle, and your favorite spots are mushy crowded crap.... You haven't surfed in four to five years, but you can almost bust an air....
Just what I need paddeling in front of me when I'm coming down the line....
Best advice is some time in a swimming pool to get in shape first. Some time on a treadmill to get your wind up. Then a trip to Kennedy on Ventura Blvd.
PLEASE!!!! Don't get an easy paddle wave magnet that gives you more waves than your skill level dictates... It's summer around the corner, and I'm getting more depressed...

Most of the waves in LA county are wimpy and powerless not to mention way overcrowded, and WTF are you talking about, surfing is best in the summer when the water is warm and you don't have to wear a dreaded and bloated wetsuit. Do you actually LIKE wearing booties in the winter? Yes, I have a high ability level because I grew up surfing and skateboarding, have won numrous contest in both and have been sponsored galore. My point is, what bord do you think will be a good start?

Good stuff....I learned a long time ago that I suck at surfing. What does your former sponser recomend? ...
...maybe a 7S fish....My point is...what is a "bord" ?.......
You should go to the local Costco......They have killer bords at a great price...
...and... you can buy a Hot Dog / Soda combo for a $1.50....
You just can't go wrong buying a hotdog / soda combo for a buck 50....And free refills!!!
Why the hell would I buy a board at costco? I came in here seeking solid advice. Stick to the topic or don't comment at all. And I'm sorry that you suck at surfing. Some people such as myself, were just born with a lot more talent than most.
And while you are trying to bash other people for spelling, yu might want to go back to school to learn how to spell yourself:

You're a kook and a troll, thats great for you.
Haha
Okej, You can bust air but you don't know what board to buy? Strange.
Okej, I assume you like to shortboard so buy you a shortboard. Something between 6'4" and 6'6". Maybe you'll have a hard time in the beginning, but a man does not forget how to surf. So that should work.

Who said I forgot how to surf? Are you a nimwit? I was just checking out what people are riding these days. Like I said I was out of the loop on board trends and I'm tired of riding the same old thusters. I was asking about quads and these recent retro copies. Why is that so hard for you to fiqure out? And yes, I was bustin airs back in the 90's after Christian Fletcher and Archy showed that it was possible. Airs might be new to you but not for me bud. Backside grabs, methods, stalefish, roast beef, krooked kops, slobs, and judo airs are no prob for me pal.
"You're a kook and a troll, thats great for you."
Thanks bro....I'm hungry......After lunch we can boost some airs together.....I know there's a...Lost shortboard in here somewhere....
......It's a shame to waste all that talent..........I recomend you contact your old sponser for a new stick....7S fish...
After surfing we can go seal hunting...I have a friend ...who has a friend... who knows a guy...who has a killer boat for seal hunting....
I still like the $1.50 hotdog deal. I'll be at Costco in Carlsbad tormorrow at noon .........................
See you there....
I'm in you wax(s),
Miss the doggies at costco too much. Dude, hollywood, go to tyler and give him a huge wad of cash, cash! Huge! No stalefish. ASK him, Beg him to make you three boards, a mid and two longs, Go back home and be lazy till he calls ya back. Option 2 is a drive to Venice and check out that new shop and just buy the first thing you like.
Next time you get thumped remember you called lacounty gutless and the fact you had the balls to paddle out. Skip the treadmilland walk up and downthe cliff at dume.
one of these might help get ya back in shape, then you can post the utube vids forus. One of these will make a man outta you again. http://magicseaweed.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=16786
for the spots you mentioned, I like a big boy quad...something with a fuller nose and tail template with some thickness.
I know a lot of guys that swear by the Oakfoils DynaGlides...Wayne can custom tune the board to suit your size and ability...they work in everything from pumping to mushy porto/manhattan.
It comes with a pretty wide array of fin options as well...so you can try single, thruster, quad and more
I think this is still the business contact information:

you could also talk to Swaylocks username SynergyTodd...he's making some nice boards with a bend toward environmentally low-impact materials and durability...he recently posted a template that could be scaled up for your size and have the attributes you need for good paddling and wave count.
good luck busting those airs, homey.
..
If you have been out of the loop for 4-5 years you may be unaware that all the cool kids now ride alaias. For real. They probably have them at Mollusk.
