Let me know and please don't leave back negative comments.
Dude!!! You asked for honesty!!!
NOTHINGis worse than an out of shape surfer with a "board that you barely have to paddle to catch waves."
I, as well as many others here, dedicate ourselves to the sport we love. We have earned our places in our respective line-ups.
The grief you are taking here is our fun way of letting you know that your idea starting up again without making the effort is never appreciated in the line-up. That's why SUP surfers are pretty much universally hated. Why long board wave hogs are equally so. Why first point Malibu has become known as a waste of a classic resource.
Your spot in the line-up is waiting for you, but only with the effort that the rest of us make. No cutting corners.
Mr. Hollywood-
Ignore the crass comments. Cool to start up again. Beautiful sport that should be inviting to everyone. Earn your chops the right way by surfing more and enjoying the waves. All the hot-shit surfers have their spots and usually all the novices have theirs. Just stay in the novice areas until your paddle fitness comes back.
I live in Santa Cruz and I'll take buddies down to Cowell's if they can't surf well. It's a lot of fun to see the community that arrives there. I'll ride with Johnny Rice, Doc Scott, and tons more of these old time, pre-wetsuit, surfers who would have every right to be pissy at all of us newbys. They aren't and they set a great tone for anyone who wants to either learn or re-enter the sport. These guys who are rousting you forget that they had to learn from guys they were once crowding in on.
Odly enough I agree with one of the more crass individuals. I know you'll laugh at this but there is a great 8' foam board at Cost Co for about a hundred dollars. Everyone will cringe at the idea of taking such a board out but it is tons (!!!) of fun and handles far better than you would imagine. I originally purchased one to take my 5 year old son out at Cowell's. He had a blast. The next day there was a good swell at Steamer's Lane and there was a guy out there riding one in the slot. Next day I had to give it a try (much to my wife's and my buddy's cynical comments) and I havet to tell you it was a great ride! It won't substitute for a real performance board of any sort but if you want to get back into the sport at a reasonable price with a forgiving but fun board then get this board. If you hate it, return it. It's CostCo.
I'm sure I'll get ripped by the same guys who've been ripping you here but try it. It's shockingly fun.
One more thing to offer is to really put your time in paddling in softer areas before you go off to bigger waves. We had to bail a guy out from Steamers a few days ago because he was out of shape. Got caught inside when a set came in and couldn't escape. Guy could surf, somewhat, but he was too out of shape to take care of himself. So find a cool gentle break and enjoy the board.
If you cringe about taking the foam one out I can offer other suggestions as well but I really would re-start there.
Be cool.
why don't you guys on this thread make "Mr Hollywood" tribute boards?
instant quiver, he's got the $
I'm not riding a piece of plywood you fucktard.
