Does anyone know the origin of Paragon surfboards? They are listed constantly on Orange County (CA) CL for approx. $300 brand new. The ads never mention if they're hand shaped, from the U.S. or anything specific.
Paragon surfboards is a company from a couple guys in Orange County. I responded to an ad on craigslist and bought a fish for small days. I was told all the boards are computer shaped, then hand sanded and glassed. I was a little unsure about the boards being computer shaped, however it appears that every shaper nowadays is computer shaping. The board is super fun and the price was right.
nobody in OC seems to know who Josh Paragon is or where he came from, where he glasses his boards, or anything. His marketing plan seems to be posting brand new boards for sale on CL for $300. All of the photos are taken in the hallway of a public storage facility so matbe he is doing them in a storage unit? Some of us are trying to make a living at this and feed our families and its guys like this that are killing the local market. sorry, but this guy just really bothers me...
Well, if you can get a product that works well, has quality comensurate with what you pay, then what's wrong with that? Why such a big attitude towards surfboards and not everything else we buy? It's all made in China. Is the local surf industry looking for some wellfare? Should we subsidize the local surf industry to just to keep them in business?

I was given a 10'2 Paragon from a co-worker who...well never had the time to learn. It was my second board, and I like it well enough to keep it. But don't worry too much about how I treat it, and it sits outside on my balcony. My other boards have a place inside, and are stored properly. The Construction seems to be a bit suspect, and with in a few hours of using it it got very heel printy. Granted I'm a big fellar, so that pretty much happens to everything I own. But my first board, the one I learned on, isn't nearly as marked up and admittedly has taken a ton more of abuse. The Paragon I have is a tri fin set up, and the first thing I did was replace the crappy fins that it came with. I went out a few times with the fins it came with and noticed it would slip in the rear really easy. I replaced the Center fin with a classic true ames 9'' and that seemed to fix the isssue, I then replaced the side bites with some FCS ones I found on a broken board in a trash can. It's much better now, but I prefer my other boards over it. I use it on ocassion, and mostly as a loner. Oh, and I had to glue the side bites in, they kept falling out. And one more note about the fins it came with. Since I'm still new to the surfing game, I found out later that they were a Lexan composite. I think that was a cause to the slippage. It's not horrible, but the better and more I learn about surfing the less I like it. I won't throw it out, but I'd never purchase once.
After seeing their boards all over my local spot (Bolsa Chica) I decided to look these guys up. I first went to Play It Again Sports to check out some of their SUP's. They looked and felt solid, and the price was quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else. Finally, I tried a few of their boards at one of their demo days and I have to say they felt good.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a 10'2 SUP for myself and a smaller 9'6 SUP for my girlfriend. Out the door, the price ended up being $250 less than the next closest brand that I was checking out. We've been riding them for the past few months and they've been great. No dings, no de-lam, and the construction seems solid. Thinking about buying one of their noseriders for those small summer days.
aisa garbage

Not "every shaper".
