billy ------------What's you original post opening this thread got to do with Swaylocks? I could have easily started down the same road as others who posted on this topic. But since it has nothing to do with Surfboad design and construction. I deferred to all the other "suckers" who have posted above. Nice job. I'm sure others will jump in and air their opinions. Question for you billy----Why did the South(ie Alabama) choose to secede from the the US rather than free their slaves?

This seemed obvious -- trolling.
But I like the final statement/question in your post just the same... ;)
. Question for you billy----Why did the South(ie Alabama) choose to secede from the the US rather than free their slaves?
Answer- Because they chose to categorize people by the color of their skin. And I don't really live in Alabama? I got that from a quote by Miki Dora who when asked if he missed going to the North Shore said, "The North Shore, I'd rather go to Selma Alabama, there are to many hard feeling there". True then and true know evidently.
And I posted this question here because this is a "General Discussion" forum. Who better to solve this quandary about the ASP then people on swaylock?
This has nothing to do with your question about the ASP, but I think it has some bearing on your perpsective.
We are not ashamed to be American, we are very proud to be Hawaiian. We have no choice about being American because Americans decided we were no longer Hawaiian, but American. Our ancestors lived here for nearly 1000 years before we were over thrown. Law professors in the top colleges in the US will agree that the overthrow and annexation of Hawaii was illegal according to American laws, yet they are speechless about why it has never been corrected.
America thought it could rid the country of Hawaiians by claiming that you must have 50 percent native Hawaiian blood to be considered Native Hawaiian. Programs put in place to make up for the overthrow and annexation are only for Native Hawaiians. Well the Hawaiians did not go away and there are still quite a few "Native Hawaiians" today. Americans are still try to take take away those programs because it is racial. It is how America decided to deal with colonization and genocide. The genocide part didn't work, so now they want to take the money away.
My friends mother just passed away, she was full blooded Hawaiian. It will be a sad day when there are no longer 100 percent full blooded Hawaiian people, but it's bound to happen before long.
I once went on a horse ride in Oregon. The whole time we were riding
the tour guide showed us all the places where great Indian Chiefs were
killed and tribes erased from the face of our planet, and he sad it very
proudly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
If you knew the true story about what the Americans did to the
Native Indians, you'd be ashamed to be American. Go to the Native
American museum at the Smithsonian and see what your
forefathers did. Hundreds of Indian tribes no longer exist because of
what Americans did.
I would like to add that I do not give the slightest damn about the ASP, or pro surfing. So, it doesn't matter to me what distinctions are given to certain geographic locations. It's all a dog and pony show designed to sell over priced crap to the masses, with the side effect of more crowds in the water.
Someone else made a comment that many Americans do not know that Hawaii is one of the 50 states. Dan Quayle comes to mind.
The likely answer to why some surfers are listed as coming from Hawaii is because it's a distinct location that still maintains unique cultural attributes important to the history of surfing. Sort of like watch-making for the Swiss, running for the Kenyans, cross country skiing for the Fins/Norwegians, finely folded steel from the Japanese, etc.. That it tweaks people is an added bonus.
History is enlightening when taken in toto and horribly abused by intellectual and/or moral Lilliputians when pieces/parts are selectively bent to fit a chosen narrative.
When anyone who does not have ancestors that did not bash someone else on the skull or somehow otherwise manipulate people to take land/resources/slaves/etc from others chimes in on any ideological debate snidely slipped sideways into what should be a non-partisan venue - it'll be the first such post ever anywhere that any of us will likely see in our lifetimes. There may also be a strong inclination by many to worship the author of said post.
That being said, it's in our nature to accuse thee and not me because it's no picnic owning your own issues now is it?
Perhaps Swaylocks is a better venue for a discussion of tools and not debates by them but then I'm comfortable either way given I not only acknowledge having ancestors who were real pricks, I own up to sharing that attribute as well remaining here only in the vain hope the company of enlightened souls such as yourselves rubs off upon me lifting me to your superior moral and technical vantages - if it has not done so already.
Best wishes for a stellar new year - see you's on the other side.
Someone educate me, because I've never understood the "us vs. them" thinking. Hawaiians warred and killed each other for thousands of years. Why aren't any of the conquered Hawaiians complaining about the victorious Hawaiians?
Kameamea is a hero for conquering the other islands. vs U.S. is a villan for buying Hawaii. (Yea, I know all about how corrupt the deal was, so please stay on track.)
What is the difference between Kameamea killing fellow islanders, and the white land barrons who corrupted elections? Both wanted more power, and have blood on their hands.
Everybody's ancestors have blood on their hands. No one is innocent. A little self reflection would be nice.

I agree with you on the continuous fighting by the Chiefs, I believe it is why we can't unify ourselves today. The difference is that Kamehameha was born into a world where the Chiefs continually fought for power. The power mongers were really the priests they were the ones guiding the Chiefs into battle. Before the Tahitian warrior chiefs came to our home and forced their rule, the islands were very peaceful.
What Kamehameha did that we honor is having the ability to recognize that we needed to be a single entity, a sovereign monarchy to avoid being overthrown by outside cultures. He was able to stop the fighting and create a single unified nation which is very different from how the American Indians lived.
International law stated that Hawaii would be able to maintain it's sovereign status if we were recognized as a Monarchy, and we were recognized internationally.
The overthrow and annexation of Hawaii was and is illegal according to both American and International law. One of my friends from high school tried to represent us at the Haigue, but they didn't want to deal with it. Another good friend was working with the Native Hawaiian Legal foundation. In a conversation we had he said "the problem we have is that we have to negotiate with the person who stole everything from us to try and get things back, but the person who stole it all is not obligated to give anything back."
@ no one in particular: acknowledge human nature, repudiate human nature, accept human nature, improve human nature ... Self righteous indignation and hypocrisy live on.

A strike isn't the same as taking the hook McDing.
He does keep moving the jig in a nice erratic pattern though.
