Want To Buy Longboard with little rocker. I'm getting back into surfing after getting a hip replacement
from skateboarding. I don't stand up as quick with the new hip & want
to catch waves earlier to allow extra pop up time. My thought is a board
with less rocker or "flat rocker" would help me paddle more efficient,
faster, & glide to catch waves sooner.
What is a good flat
rocker board? Are there any shapers/builders that have a flat rocker
model? Dont really want to spend the bucks to have one made just now.
This board may only be used for rehab, as I get my legs back under me.
I'm 6-1" , 230 lbs. hopefully the girth will shrink in time, but for now
I am what I am.
Any ideas?

So is the Robert August W.I.R. a good choice? Basically looking for a stock flat rocker sled. I know I could order a custom one, but was hoping there was a stock model I could pick up.
Plumber, I am going through same dilemma at moment, though due to surgeries to both shoulders last year. I'm fortunate to have a few boards in my quiver, but by far the best I feel for you would be the Takayama In The Pink model, in Surftech construction. (I know some people have issues with Asian popouts, but putting that aside, you need float). I am your height but under 200 pounds. The ITP has a super flat rocker, is very wide at nose so catches waves very early, and is so stable on pop up. Mine is a 9'6" which is the biggest size (86litres volume). That big nose can get in the way in steep waves, but I suspect your main goal is to get back in the water at this stage! Check out Dino Miranda on Youtube in big surf on the 9'3" version. Hope this helps- never stop surfing.
Thanks. I've been eye balling the ITP. Just dont have a grand to drop on one. I found a 9'-6" x 25" wide ITP, but used it's a $1000. I've been talking to Joe Blair too. He's into making boards for the bigger older guy. He's got some boards he said I can try out when he gets back from Hawaii. But if anyone knows of a DK "In the Pink" around 9'-6" in the San Diego area for sale, let me know!
hey you asked about the Robert August What I Ride. Well My dad and I just bought one for my cousin as a wedding present and I have to say that its a killer stick. He is 6'1" and about 215 and we got him the 9' one (red and yellow graphics). I know that the ITP is a killer board as well but for $300 less you can score a brand new Robert August. My dad is an old school east coast surfer and he is all about the RA longboards. I swear that he should be sponsored by them for how much he endorses their product. That being said when I got a new longboard last summer I didnt have the coin to drop on a RA so I bought a house brand epoxy 8'6" board from my local shop. I love it and ended up trading in my girlfriends Roxy Surftech after I got my board and she got the same one as I did. Also I see that you are in SD. Have you checked out Sean Ambrose? My cousin had a fish made by him and its sick and I know he makes a quad longboard that may be incredibly awesome for you. Anyhow enjoy getting back out there and have fun with whatever board you decide on!
