This guy's real situation perfectly articulates our greater problem and the continuing disucussion on out sourcing our work. This will likely fall on deaf ears here as this place as pretty much turned into a morgue but it's real. The site this came from has all these videos and they don't take a political slant. Well done.
Yes, a pretty good video - nothing but a "talking head" as they say, but the guy is obviously educated, intelligent, articulate, and erudite. So if he's out of work, what hope is there for me, lol.
Not sure what you mean by saying it will "likely fall on deaf ears", since it doesn't offer any real insight or solutions, but simply spells out the problem as we know it. As far as the morgue comment, could you elaborate?
Check the site it came from. There are some great other videos as well as solutions and etc. The guy really put his site together well. I like anything done well..
On Deaf ears...getting any real conversations around here lately like the last year or two has been more difficult than in times past. Seems like many of the older posters post less. I'm obviously not talking about all the political talk, but there doesn't seem to be near the variety of conversation as it used to be. Just the ebb and flow of the tide I guess or just my own perception. This used to be the place for perspective. Agreement or otherwise.

I'm a relative newcomer here, so I don't know a whole lot about what came before. From reading past posts, I would say it was great when guys like Bert Berger would share lengthy how-to and thoughtful design threads. I have been here long enough to miss guys like noleash and scboy and camplus, who used to post here a lot more.
But overall, I think its a great site, with plenty of good conversation. My advice to keep it a great site is when someone posts something interesting, say so! Participate, join the conversation, start a topic, post a picture of your surfboard or your friends surfing or your girlfriend or your cat or whatever!
I'll try to check the site (you linked to) out a little more.
......ah the ebb and flow.......there's a lot of negativity in the whole world at the moment Solo ...and it seems to be effecting everything.........I think we'll deal with it though.......

True. The generation of greed ( not that others haven't been either ) are now aging and finding themselves out of work by the very world they helped create. It's irony. The problem with the slippery capitalist who run things behind the scenes is they like to start wars to talke people's mind of their deeds. They make money at every step and like the Surf shop wars I used to write about here. They don't build anything new or add anything new, they simply get and hold and try their best to take the ladder out from under others trying to reach where they are. Ha Ha...love the Joe the plumber analogy. Joe has found out he was a useful idiot. Made a few bucks and helped screw more of his kind.

"top down never does anything".............. Trickledown is just a euphemism for piss on. We have a systemic dysfunction where political ecomonics is the rule of law.
The transformation from pissed on to pissed off will either challenge or ignore this law.
We're watching the psuedo socio-political show down right now, The Slippery Capitalist -VS- The Moderate Socialist...its practically a hollywood orchestration.
"Joe the plumber," the wannabe a 1%er, will still vote for more piss, already waste deep,........is he still warm and comfortable?
Fixed it for you.
"Mako the plumber?',or 'Mako the Pawn'
The Cold War Paradigm is a tired dialogue.
WE are living the "fallout" of a decade of deregulation.
"Freedom" in a "capitalistic society" has been distorted and transformed into economic Darwinism.... verging on cannabalism.
Freedom is a myth,
freedom is a reaction, and a dsire for something else or more.
Is there freedom from hate, freedom from moral obligation or freedom to frack and pollute?
...Freedom to bailout the banks. ....Free to gas up your boat and tool around the ocean? Free to steal, murder, rape and mame.
One is never free from anything, or free to do anything....there's a price to pay.
There are Rules, Regulations and Laws and above all a fugging moral imperative.
Why... because people can't handle "freedom," they use it and abuse it, and when big money backs it...... there's economic casualties.
If you think the GOP has got the country's back, your mind needs to be liberated.

" Shiny and cheap "
This discussion has the potential to get too deep........however , IMO , we have reached the point where the world can no longer support those people and entities that produce profit, and nothing more........they contribute nothing ,and are slowly taking everything.............there is a parallel world where respect , reward for effort and an appreciation of achievement and history still function.......and it's absolutely free to join it.........

We need New incentives for capitalism, the focus should be the improvement of the human condition not the production of cosmetic trappings.

[/quote]There should always be reward for those that choose to go that xtra mile......should be incentive enough.......should we do it for self-satisfaction ?...........or just do it for the money?.........the way bigger companies keep swallowing smaller companies these days , its all about the money, and never about the achievement........and its never about the people that do the real work......IMO , it starts and finishes at the local level...........

There are quite a few good replies here. I'm wondering why it got moved to bugs?
The person in the vid perfectly explained the problem with Imports made with cheap labor in a very thoughtful and objective way.

The Renminbi is completely under valued..it should be two to three times its value relative to the dollar; if it floated freely, offshoring would be persued only for capitalizing on Chinese Domestic Demand.
The direct result is the standard of living/wages in America has been depressed by lack of jobs directly and the availability of cheap imports; the latter allows many to get by spending less on cheap goods...somewhat..... but the put through ultimately is this causes labor/workers to stagnate and refrain from commanding higher wages and ultimately a saving/moving to a higher standard.
Now add the regressive taxe code where the middle and poor pay a proportionately higher amounts relative to subsistance costs and one might come to the conclusion the American Dream is a Myth, if not a complete financial nighmare, especially for the lower mid-class and poor.
But guess what? China is not only slowing, but all that stimulus they injected back in '08 and '09 during our collaspse, is non performing...sound familiar. China is dry.

The old "catch 22"......the Chinese economy is almost totally geared to the consumer markets of Europe and the US.............IMO , Greece has taken a bold step towards commonsense.......they will do OK.............

Agree and I like the resugence of Greek Nationalism there. If they modify it a bit it can be the good type of Nationalism that draws like people's together. Agree with who said the American dream is dead. Also on that video....look at the websiste it came from There are like 60 such videos all of different folks from different walks of life. The website did a great job with the subject.

I don't believe it's possible to kill the dream.....it's too powerfull.....I think there's too many vested interests taking extreme measures to hide it....or portray it as something less than what it is.....I have a constant need to re-asses my values ,and find them measured less and less in terms of money...and more about quality of life...........
http://www.currumbinwoodworks.com.au/
I think the people of Greece decided that they were happy ,just to be Greece, instead of being part of something much bigger that has far less value.........and far more problems.

Agree. The idea of " Multi Culture " has been a huge failure. It requires you to destroy one culture and attempt to force another unnatural one. Used to be the multi added to the mix well because they wanted to adopt the native culture. Not attempt to change the culture and exist only as room mates.
