I got to this party late. I'm not going to go back and read everything. I just had to add this. No matter what side of the political spectrum you're on you got to admit it's funny-
well now that i have read through all of this there was some excellent points made and it made for a good read, so thank you to all
and if i remember correctly dead shaper made a post awhile back about what he would do to save this country and i have to say my vote goes to dead shaper
No offence Huie but that article is not a nutural view point on the current state of polictics but an Opinion piece written by the conservative commentator Piers Akerman, the article was titled: US voters need to put Romney in White house. He spent time in America (wikipeadia), has an American wife and writes articles in support of right-wing or conservative polictics thats why he would write an article in support of Romney. He writes for the Telegraph which is owned by Rupert Murdochs News Cororporation, a conservative media empire which owns most of the worlds media, one sided view point??
Piers is a climate change sceptic who loves the political argument of attacking the carbon tax. Many countries in the world already have a carbon tax and even if the Liberal party were to remove the carbon tax in 2013-14 we are still going to get (and the Liberal party is in support of) an emmissions trading scheme in 2015 so either way we are getting rimmed 7 ways till sunday.
My view point is that polictics is so deeply corrupted by corporate money and power that arguing over it between mates is a waste of time. The best thing we can do for democracy is to vote for a minor party or independant (can you do that in America?) who shares your view point so at least there's some different people in there to attempt to 'keep the bastards honest'.

Maybe the president has already been 'Selected' not 'Elected'? Electronic Voting machines are dubious to say the least, marked by 12 years of contraversy:
'Virtually the entire national vote count is now being conducted on electronic voting machines, which include optical scanning computers. There is one overriding reality that defines their use: the courts have ruled that their software is proprietary, and therefore in essence immune from public scrutiny. In practical terms, this means the vote counts for tens of millions of American citizens is opaque and beyond investigative or legal monitoring or recall.'
'The fact that the Bush family, with their patriarch George Herbert Walker Bush being the CIA director, is so inextricably linked to the rise of electronic voting and improbably election results, should be no surprise.
The Bush family ascendancy corresponds to black box, nontransparent voting in America. The more we’ve privatized our software and hardware and called it “trade secrets,” the better the Bush family candidates have done, against all odds. Their presidential victories, with the official exit polls falling well outside the margin of errors and predicting victories for their opponents, would easily be denounced by election observers in a Third World country.''
Huie I'm in agreement with you in your view points, and I don't know a lot about politics so correct me where I'm wrong but but I reckon what breeds the corruption in Australia just like the US is it's always a 2 horse race, one party gets in and F@!ks it for 99% of people, then 4 years later the next party gets in and does the same thing. It's not a balanced bunch of representatives who speak for all types of people and collectivley (and intellegently) come together to solve the country's problems. The Swiss direct democracy is a better platform, Iceland just wrote a new constitution and I believe it is a similar system to switzerland. Thats not communism.
Anyway I think the system is rooted and it's designed for corruption, 76 Liberal seats in the senate in Canberra wont change anything cause absolute power corrupts. The political power brokers (men in black) lobby both sides of government and eventually win the interests of who ever they are working for.
And both sides of politics will always be plauged by scandals, the media loves that stuff. Thomson is a good example of money corrupting with his free credit card he went to town on, Slipper did a good job until it was found out he was a creepy gaylord..woopsy from parliment! Andrew Wilkie (there's a good independant) personally told J.Howard that there were no WMD in Iraq but Jonny went f@rk that the military industrial complex wants to go so we wont ask parliment we'll just deploy the troops. Childern over board? I wont introduce a GST..there's plenty from all sides.
At least you made it to retirement with a good run, Australia's going to be a greece or spain in 40 years. If we keep selling everything over seas, farms, water, mining, (Beer companies!!). Fill the place up with imigration but no jobs, unreal!!
I'm not partial to latte, i'll give you that much (I don't bat for slippers team)...but seriously what do you put in your tea that keeps you going? F@rkn tobasco sauce?? (just kidding)
