So many have died for the values and freedoms that are embodied in our founding documents, and now with a major election looming there are those who say anything political doesn't belong here. I had a black-homosexual drama professor years ago, that emphasized "everything is political" and while we never saw eye to eye on the homo thing, he was right about the political part. "You have to ask yourself are you part of the status quo or are you part of the solution,'' he would say every class. I just wanted to know the thoughts of the brothers, and sisters on who they prefer Obama, or Romney. Its sad that some around here lack the maturity to even talk about it.

I'm as guilty as anyone for getting involved with political threads on a surfing forum but I never start them. IMO politics serves to divide us and distract us from the common interests we share here, so a no-politics rule (if there is one here) doesn't bother me one little bit.
We have more than enough internal politics in going on in surfing and surfboard building. If people are that intent on choosing sides and getting into heated arguments with the mutual exchange of personal insults I think there's still plenty of opportunity to be had here for that. Meanwhile, I prefer to remember that a 2-party system will inevitably result in an electorate that is more or less divided down the middle. That being the case, it's hard to say 50% of everyone is crazy and unreasonable because it's apparent they can't be.
Not to mention the fact that our group includes a lot of people who live in other nations with other political systems, and any time one of them ventures an opinion it's just too common to get a "mind your own business" rebuke in exchange.
I'd rather see more of "us" and less of "us-vs-them" on Sways. Nevertheless, I am a guest on this form and one of the bastard stepchildren among surfboard builders so I shall yield to whichever direction the tribe chooses on this.

I don't know what to say! I'm dumbfounded! I never thought it would happen!
I agree with ghettorat!
I just looked again at the political thread. Nobody got out of line, so why was it deleted? Plenty of other threads on non surfing specific subjects have gone on here. Occasionally even a moderator has posted something non surf specific. I remember it was just something they found interesting?
How about a policy, if something being politely discussed by long standing members, it is just left alone.
Way too much policing going on here lately. We are all big boys. A little more respect of the members would be appreciated.
Am I being a dick again?

I was finding the thread interesting I live on the other side of tge world so don't have any thing to do with it. I do feel its important to be able to talk about your political views with others especialy those who think differently. Often it help you see that really most people want the same thing. Or at least a chance to understand where they are coming from. Some of my best friend vote the opposite way from me.
If I had a say it would be anyone who would stop the tpp happening. That's where you lost me. What is ''t p p'' ?
It stands for trans pacific parntership .
Basicly its a free trade deal.
But with some nasty bits that will make corperations more powerful and their profits more important than our government or laws.
Thank you.
I am not sure it even qualifies as a free trade deal. It gives U.S. based companies the right to litigate in other countries, using U.S. laws, so it seems more a relinquishing of sovereignty.
This place has enough difficulty keeping it civil at times, why include the lit fuse of politics. It is one of the few places to come look and ONLY see stuff about surfing. It is a haven in the mire that is the internet.
PS the only change that will happen if the presidents switch is about abortion. I think maybe we should let the women of this world decide that law.
