Ok, relative newcomer here, didn't start participating until life slowed up 4/5 years ago and had more time for the optional, so can only judge within a relatively short window. With that said, what's up with some of the meanness that is starting to creep into Sways?
Don't like the topic or anothers opinion on the topic, no need to ridicule, curse or accuse. Just go to another thread. Or Check the surf. Play with your dog. Seduce your wife.
It's a surfboard forum, not the US House of Buffoons, or US Senate of Smug. We're inundated with enough of this crap in our broken political system that serves no one but the politicans feeding off of it.
So is it really asking much to be tolerant of the differing views, interests and opinions of your brothers on Sway's?
If so, check in with yourself, cause the problem isn't with the folks on Sway's, it's the guy in the mirror.
Just saying...
I totally agree.
If anyone is in that bad of a mood that they need to snap at people on the internet, log off and go have a beer, go for a walk, or do something else. Don't dump your attitude here...
I'm all for a bit of that too. Ego is rife everywhere in life. I come here to learn and share (what little) I know. This forum has been literally the best thing I've ever stumbled across. I'm a complete backyarder (well converted garage as it's always pissing it down here) and to come across a resource thats connected me with industry leaders and 'gods' who've served their time/earned their wings is unheard of in the rest of society. I read many comments and just sit here biting my tongue. I try not to respond negatively...but that's the way I roll in the rest of my life.
There's shit everywhere. There really isnt too much space for it here. We can share and enjoy the magic that happens here. Why not do the same as I do. If you dont agree dont get angry just politely put your point across OR IGNORE IT. Easy as that.
On the other hand maybe my approach is just my northern working class british roots. Not subserviant but I dont think of my self as any more important, or wiser than anyone else.

I take offense at your lack of respect for the lack of respect you have for time honored US institions that constitute one of our three branches of government. Madison did a great thing seperating the branches to create checks and balances understanding full well the machinations of the human spirit. Your correct this is a forum dedicated to surfboards, and according to Jefferson we live in a Country dedicated to "all men created equal, and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights." If someone chooses to disagree there is a chance albeit slight, that he is right.
Blah, blah, blah, "we live in a country."

LOL.

I don't think it's new. I came here just about the time Roy was banned for the second time. Prior to that it was pretty intense. Over the last couple of years I've seen quite a bit of attacks and arguments. Lots of know it alls, and lots of total newbies pissing off know it alls. There's smart asses. It's just like everywhere else on the internet. Swaylocks has been discovered by the masses. If you don't believe me, just look at the ads running here. Not the kind of stuff most surfboard builders would need.
Do you guys remember the internet when browsers were just text based and only the academic community, or the DOD scientists were using it. Lots of open honest exchange of information. Everything was free. Then businesses learned about it, and the smut dealers, then the kids.
The people who contributed quite a bit about cutting edge design and materials are off making their products and laughing all the way to the bank at those who weren't able to understand, willing to listen, or just wanted to make a buck off of someone else's intellectual property.
Life is getting a bit stressful in 2013, and I predict a bumpy ride for the year. Gotta make sure you have everything sorted out and be ready for the storms. Get your quiver ready, may need that big gun you rarely ever ride, or that SUP log for those extra long flat spells.
I like reading the pissing matches. I may start some shit my ownself as soon as I can figure out who to start it with.

very, very funny clean lines. you'd beat me too easy.

It seems a sissification of the masses has taken place. In the race to give everyone the gold everyone loses; in fact it is a race to the bottom, yet still in this "Brave New World" some will argue life at the bottom is good, in fact around here there are some who will tell you crap tastes good. Not everyone can be right at the same time, and not everyone gets along- those are facts. Too many around here want to be part of the "Collective Herd" instead of drawing their own lines.
Stop with the touchy feely stuff, and spend some time touching and feeling surfboards, as to learn how to make them better. You guys kill me with this crap. When you mess up try not to do it again, and learn if you can from your mistakes. Expect criticism when you post something, especially if its a picture of something crappy, or an inane statement.
