... re : shaping a 'jet bottom' surfboard ...

How rapt was I today to read that one of you here will make one , ‘one day’   ?!  After over nine years of being at swaylocks [‘chipfish61’  , originally] , I am glad to see a shaper here finally rise to the challenge .

It may well be the only chance of a ride report we get , unless a swaylockian has one , and wants to share / give a ride report .    so…     watch this space , eh ?     ‘one day’ , it ‘might’ happen , hopefully ?! [the sooner the better , it’s been a LONG , patient wait , for me , so far ?!]

copied and pasted from my   ' miguel ' thread that I self-hijacked ?! oops

Ben, what is that board in that picture? I could not stop staring at it. I'm intrigued.

Ben, Man. All I can say is I'm glad I did not have to glass or sand that thing. But it sure is BITCHIN !

I so want to try and make one.   I've done a Phazer bottom (dimples). Nothing like that though.

Thanks for posting some more pics. I'll save it for the Future projects file.

  hi zac  !

 well, unfortunately ...

it's one of three boards that I've been told not to ride [ the other two ? you guessed it ... his other two jets , also]

but maybe , when he returns , eli or him , can be photographed [by me] , actually RIDING them ?!

the curiousity will be killing me , I know but hey ...

orders is orders , man !

and at least I will finally get to SEE and hold them !!

bazza , MAKE one and surf it !

It will EASILY be finished [but not easily done ...'lol' , etc]  before simon returns ! And you'd have a ride report finished by then too i'm betting [hint hint] ?!  [....everyone else here are pikers , when it comes to making one ...so much for all these 'shit hot shapers' ,  eh ?!  ha ! ....]

zac ,

'geoff' [? 'jeff'?] here , from surfresearch bought simon's kewarra 5'5 kneeboard jet bottom , which simon used to ride at L.A. , just a smidge up the road from you ...

so maybe if he [? jeff?] still visits here [?] ...it might be worth 'p.m'.ing HIM , eh , with the 'how does it ride ?" question ...

the kneeboard is pictured both at    www.surfresearch.com.au ,

and also on the 'swaylocks surfboard design photo forum' thread ...

i'll just go get the links for you now , buddy ...just sec , mate !

 ... it's pictured ,

halfway down THIS page ,  zac the lad !

and ... again ...

  http://www.surfresearch.com.au/00000223.html

further....

in that long article on surfresearch , you'll notice simon's comment

" both the kewarras , unfortunately , are finless"

  gee ...

...if ONLY we knew someone who made fins , who lived there , eh ?

bwahaha  , bwahaha [mind ticking over ]

..... check out erle pedersen's fins , zac , 'IF' you have an open mind ....

.... I want josh dowling / speedneedle to make a jet bottom ,  and bill barnfield , too perhaps.... 'pandanus' ...john , you live the closest out of anyone here , to erle and glenn...  would they let you pick  their minds a bit re": shaping one , d'ya reckon , mate ?

of course , NOT forgetting ...

  JICK,

who posted a thread here on ' jick bottoms ' , once  ...

  jick mebane ...

ARE you still on sways , please , mate ?

 cheers !

  ben

very interesting read ben. Nice to know abit of the history of little avalon. dont think many kneeboarders are done there these days. I guess kneeboarding got replaced by the bodyboard.

J…F…C…

that bottom will induce SOOOO much turbulence… The fins may have no effect at all… Not to mention that creating all the turbulence will have a huge cost in energy…

As surfboard art, though, it’s on a high plane ( pun intended).

Hey Ben,

Don’t forget Erle Pedersen is still making jet bottoms at 1770 here in Aus, when someone will pay him to do it.

Crikey Moses! That’s an eye-opener!

(that site should come with a warning of unrestrained free thinking)

here’s mick fanning , 20 years old at the time , on one …

Kind of reminds me of the Willis Bros. Phaser surfboards I used to get back in the 90’s.

saw this on craigslist , it was to small for me but i should have got it anyway just to try it for a few waves

hope i come accross one in the future

where was it , and what size ?

 cheers

 ben

in was in Dana Point , 5-10 x 18.5 x 2.25 .

kinda small for my 6-0 x 190 pounds self

wow

that IS a small board !

5’11 to 7’ are the ones here .

 And , I think ‘surffoils’  one  [ that I photographed while in sydney , in May last year ]  is ? 6’6 x 19" , from memory.

I wonder if the guy selling it was an ex-pat Aussie grommet , now  living in the States ?

It would be interesting to know how many jet bottoms are worldwide , and where ?

  cheers !
