I have not been down in that area for over 25 years. My friends tell me it is coast gaurd enforced for all that monkey business. When I first saw the blue water at boca chica it was unreal beauty only imagined in my mind. My neck of the woods on South padre was red algae bloomed for most of the time when I was there and it even made its way to the intercoastal water way. Brown water. You are so right BG, very special place.
SB,Cheap gas, less responsibilities and not thinking twice about driving 700 miles round tip for a weekend excursion to get some tar balls on your surfing shorts was all in play. Never met any jerks when surfing or windsurfing. Felt very safe most of the time and the ability to protect myself was easy. I will let you know when we pull the trigger on moving. Compared to Hawaii, Texas is way less expensive for land and housing.
I like Texas. I like Texans in general. I have several friends from the Republic of Texas. Of course, I've only driven through it 4 times. Never lived there. Friendly people like everywhere else if you don't behave like an asshole. Nice people. Straight talkers. Tough people. It was funny, I'd go into a greasy spoon for breakfast or whatever and the waitress would have me pegged. "You from California, honey?" Does it show that much? Maybe because I asked for whole wheat toast. I liked it. Pick up trucks, cowboy hats, beautiful women. I'd pull my truck over on the side of the road. Nobody in sight. Looked like an African Savanna. Birds everywhere. Knarly fire ants! Beautiful country around San Antonio. Not so beautiful around Houston. Too flat. I don't know. If it had more surf, I might think about moving there. California is a beautiful state, but it sure is crowded. I sure wish all you new comers would go back to where you came from. Liberal fiscal policies are sucking the economy dry. I've lived here for 56 years except the 6 months I spent in Florida. Mike
I spent my first 50 years in socal and my last 2 in Texas. I couldn't be happier. I live in Ft Worth and the countryside is mellow and beautiful, and the people are cool and considerate. Of course I miss the surf being 5 minutes from my door, but that is a small price to pay for not having to deal with the bullshit of the Great Welfare State. My wife and I get to keep almost 70% of our hard earned income instead of 52%, so if that is "stealing" my wealth then I guess I belong in jail.
That's a loooooooong drive to the surf dcasey. Private plane? Mike
Don't remind me!
WTF - guess the science shit got too out of hand, so to speak... Ha!
I like the suggestion about the different forum types.... Heck, I looked here for the fun of it...
Somewhere in this thread I read the term liberal " agenda. " Then logged off. That is all. Hope you all have a great up coming year.
The killers in high places say their prayers out loud
Hope everyone has been enjoying their fall and early winter.
Surf has been great for past 3 months here in the PNW.
Weather excellent as well, many warm sunny days interrupted by the occasional storm.
Hella fun session today, sets well overhead and reeling.
Just five of us out, me on a mid length RP tri, one on a self shaped quad stubbie, another on a custom Rusty, another on a racy HPLB, and the last on a, gasp, Firewire shortie.
We didn't discuss physics, just hooted and handed out stoke to each other.
Can't have too many verbal exchanges like that.
Loved every word.
What a line up...
I would rather be someone's shot of whiskey, than everyone's cup of tea.
