Like 'shapers' who don't have templates, or can't make templates?
Like 'shapers' that can only get boards off certain machines that cut the bottom rail, because they can't turn the bottom rail on the preshape?
Like 'shapers' who get other old time (real) shapers to ghost shape their boards?
Like 'shapers' who pay for a spot/advertisment in the 'board buyers guide', faulsly claim they've been shaping for 25 years when they're 30 years old, shaped 30,000 boards, worked for Al and every other big name in the industry..?
...the other almost institutionalized one is the "--put a famous name here-- magic touch" to finish the machined shapes...it s a marketing thing that support the machine lie.
-you just have the shape done; you know, the curves, etc; all have been set up; even easier with quality software and right machine.
Marsh, to what you say I can add: shapers that barely can build an entire board and in fact most famous never did one or did a few. Shapers that do not know how to make logotypes, paint, do color work, make fins, gloss a board, you name it...oh yeah 30000 shapes, yeah
Some of the best Hand shapers that ever were in the U.S. Aus. France, Brazil, New Zealand Etc. Etc.; Never foilded a fin, designed a logo, painted or glassed a board. So what does that make them??

Hating is too much of a negative drain though Reverb..
It's all about marketing, you don't need to be the best craftsman...or even a craftsman at all, you can make it as a hack with a quicksilver team rider and good marketing.. Most 'consumers' have no idea what a good board is anyway.
Maybe you should get an instagram account and a bit of money into a website, if you can't beat them (at marketing)...join them?
...only opened this thread to comment about the 100% handshaped thingy irreality; then you talked about the other things and I added that last sentence, but Im not hating anyone in particular; those are facts too.
--the pioneers and the shapers that contributed a lot to the design built boards not only shaped them; yes, you had A Merrick too.
Hmmm. Pyzel was an underground shaper that few people had heard of outside the Hawaiian Island until John Florence. Once John John made it big so did Pyzel.. Lucky break or marketing??

...so big that the guy came here (to the machine) finished some then let his brand in one of the machine shops to continue the thing...
Hmm. Well that's pretty big.
