Clean your drains, rain gutters and batten down the hatches!
"Way beyond Dr. George."
HAHA - you're showing your age with that one. I used to like him but my dad thought the guy was a buffoon. I think Dr George likely was showing signs of early Alzheimer's(?) Is he still alive?
Hey John!
Dr George passed away March 25, 2015.
Probably the first "surf forcaster"
Ya know, I'm pretty old...
Prior to Dr. George, it was the LA Times!
Eh! What great times!!!
The more weather savvy you were the better you scored!
As soon as I could get one

I have always thought that direction, interval and height represent the variables for measuring a swell's potential. However, my experience with several recent El Nino swells makes me wonder. "On paper" recent El Nino swells (Santa Cruz, Cal) should have been great, but were somewhat disappointing in reality. This was not a case of combined swell direction which can confuse things.
Is it possible to have a single, mid-to-long interval swell from a normal direction, but which lacks some other intangible factor? The only way I can describe it is that Surfline is reporting what promises to be a high quality swell, but which turns out to feel like a windswell; lacking energy, consistency and definition. Anybody else notice this regarding El Nino generated waves?
The Key "now a days" is REAL knowledge.
Sorry I am so weird I track world water temps.
Eh, doesn't hurt my fishin' Addiction .
I have been on my soap box for sometime now.
And IMHO???
Get your weapons in order.

Hi Matt -
I'm not disputing the El Nino predictions. I'm not really a weatherman. Based on my own backyard observations, I AM having some questions as to what the whole El Nino deal is likely to bring. I live up in Los Osos and recent observations of nature at work include...
I realize the temperatures haven't been too terribly cold aside from a few days here and there - its been 60+ the past few days. I am somewhat baffled right now in what should be the middle of winter by the sounds of nature. I simply do not recall hearing so many bees and frogs this time of year in the past.
Anything like that down your way?
Eh, John....
Love Los Osos!
I got as far away from LA as I could at the time.
Tryin' to understand El Nino is damn near impossible.
I mean all the Pros at weather always fall back on error
Oh, Opps!, Eh no thing as a sure thing.
Lots of this El Nino is the surface temperature.
It hasn't run deep, so the sea temp fluxuation now is
well a new set of data...
I'll sum up the El Nino with this
The warm push to the south has changed the rules.
I see our Northern storms moving out more giving us more West.
Down here we have watched swells go right on by.
We are seeing better surf, today was a epic stand out...
So whatever. Surf is up for awhile.
On the natural side down here...
Got more owls than normal.
And varmen.
Horse is plump and isn't all furred up.
Ya know maybe you can feel the seasons change as well.
I've been thinking for sometime now, maybe our calender needs adjustment...
I'll step up and predict floods
in Mexico!
