cool stuff yorky! dont do it with the channels, keep it simple! Haha the multi faceted tail is already too much for me:) seriously good shaping though and love the energy/precision you put into these builds , carry on..
I decided to put the side bite channels, and mini conaves in the tail.
Plus I deepened to side pannel concaves. These don't go right out to the botttom edge (at half way) they stop about 1 1/2" from the tuck, but flow out to the edge in the tail, there about 2mm or >1/16" deep.
The concave and vee off the tail is very suttle (unlike the moster vee out the tail in build #2)
EDIT: I re read my post here, I sounded like a retard, sorry about that.
No, Imbrace the machine, It's a tool at the end of the day.
I didn't mean to offend people, especially backyarders (there leading the way, both in stoke and creativity IMHO)
What I don't like is overnight 'scrubbers' that haven't earn't there stripes. The playboy 'shapers' that, really, don't know shit from clay about surfboard construction, Stickers, hats, tee's... the ego, the BS. With 30 board a week contracts from who they know, Not, what they know.
When I lived in caloundra it was just up the road from Anne street worked with ben sylk from wind and sea, even got my name on club champion for senior mens in 2009. Only competitive claim to fame....
Maybe I could go back reread, look at pictures and figure it out; My question is; Are you using a grit barrel or blades? Nice shaping either way. But since you are into EPS and Dow Blue; I was thinking a barrel from Shapers would be appropriate.

The first few boards I shaped with it (they were all pu back then) I was like "whats this shit" It felt like it was floating and not gripping (ripping) in.
I ran with two of the same Hitachi's one with blade and one barrel for finishing for a while.... You know the deal.
But once I got used to it. Love it.
... I never have owned a 'skil' I do have skil envy, what a classic machine ha, and that 'accurate planer' that looks mental.
The first year I were to Japan they had a 'Bosh' plastic. and a Hitashi with all the clark mods. The Bosh was tolal crap (for me) and the mods on the Hitachi (depth control thing) was loose as shit. - I couldn't get my head around it / flopping around everywhere.
Just stick to what you know I guess.
I can't stand shaping without my own gear or bay now, won't do it. I think I got a bit of OCD when I walk into a shaping bay these days haha
Yes hard to go somewhere else and adapt without at least the planer you are used to. Sanding blocks, Surforms etc are easily adapted. But the feel of someone else's sloppy ass planer is hard to overcome, adapt etc as Dave says. I buy and sell quite a few Skils you know. Off course they are all 120 not 240. But a "Step Up ---Step Down" could take care of that. Lowel

My workshop was an icebox last night Yorky.....I got an epoxy filler coat on a board , but it'll be lunchtime Monday before I can sand it , if the sun comes out.
I had the fan heater going in the shed yesterday and today while I laminated, then turned it off as I left the shed and it turned pretty well. Used the CET epoxy from John Gillis and it went pretty well.
Did a little timelapse with the go pro this morning but the battery went flat just as i was about to start to wrap the rails which was a bummer. its exporting now so i will add it to the "fun in the shed this arvo" thread. see if i can get it straigh on or will have to add it to a vimeo or youtube. for some reason i have had an issue with that in the past where it goes from clear to crap when i load to Youtube?
It's 4 oz plane weave rail to rail, so, nice and light this time (I drained the shit out of it too)
... Lots of decals (the gecko is a hand shaped sign from a while back), old school grom style.
No futures plugs, were doing dual fcs1 plugs this time. To see how much flex it can handle (I plan to snap this one). Futures plugs lock the tail flex up way to much... For me, any way.
I used water based yellow paint. I Applyed the paint in the carbon tape up lines (The blank wasn't sealed - the paint added a very minor sealing of the blank, for when the epoxy was brushed on for the carbon application).
I check this thread every time I see there's anything new. Loving every bit of it, just don't have much to say. I do have to admit something. The first time I saw the sci-phi tail shape, I thought it was godawful ugly. The more I've watched this thread progress, the more visually appealing it is to me. You've definitely made me re-think a few things about board design.
Hey I love to give you $#!t , but also like very much to follow what you are doing. Used to do the same to Huie. There is a little lag in understanding our cultures. Sometimes things are misconstrued. But; I admire both of you greatly and the work that you do. And one of my greatest desires has always been to watch the water in a toilet spin counter clockwise down the drain. Which means; Visit your great land Down Under. Lowel

Always click on this thread when I see you have added more to it.
I'm digging the carbon on Yellow appearance, and the bat tail is growing my my visual pleasure centers too, though such a board is not likely to go under my feet.
I have one rebuilt board I routed rail to rail depressions though 1 layer of cloth, put carbon strips pulled tight rail to rail bridging toe and heel dents and glassed over with no rail wrap. I think someone like you could refine this into an engineered flex and deck stomping resilience with little increased risk of board snapping. Way outside the logic box I know, but experimentation is where the leaps begin
I follow all your posts yorky, just don't really comment as I would rather just soak up what you're sharing. Hopefully there's plenty more to come. Cheers

Oh JFC. So now Yorky is all butt-hurt due to lack of attention? MAN UP ya wanker! Keep posting. Your shit is awesome. You're one of the few that I actually look forward to checking out when new posts go up.
We are leaning more towards a split rear fin thruster set up here compared to your traditional quad set-up (if there such a thing) . Huie has crafted various splits to try here (After all, this was the orignal plan for this thread-My bad !) moving forward.
As of tomorrow I have a Lot more time to surf, It's like a breath of fresh air.
Epic stuff buddy, I have plans in the works to make one inspired by this design and the sciphi kinda thing. But I'm thinking I might just go a standard single to double concave, letting the outline do the work. I don't want to stuff it up.
Keeping the rocker similar to the 5'6" sunny round, jusy making it a bit more refined foil through the extremities.
Needs rail channels on the deck. Or so I think.
All the best

A little insight into how I plan to make this build lighter and stronger.
I'm not going to say exactlly whats going on there (due to trols, thumb driver 'shapers', etc)
But, i'm sure if your a surfboard craftsman you'll be able to work it out. now.... or later in the build.
(pls don't post it up if you know what i'm doing, it's nothing new... but......)

Love it champ.....
So good to see all the stages pics. This thread is trouble cause I keep reading it and re-reading it.
Maybe im a thumb drive shaper, but i doubt it, I dont do enough boards and I'm to fond of doing stuff the long and hard way.
But I have been known to use the computer but I do a fair bit of hand shaping in my hobbie efforts.....

I got myself a Blue card 8 years ago and did a gig like that for the kids up your way.
My student made a board, like the lost rocket. It had exotic materials and a few bells and whistles on it...
Hats off to you, love what your doing for the kids.
It's all a time thing, I'd love to, but, I have a young demanding family and I'm a family man.
Thanks for the offer.

Cold night last night
It was the coldest I have ever used epoxy, I mixed fast epoxy at 7pm to lay strips of carbon down and around to top (I was frozen - never again!)
I ended up trimming it at 2 am (it was just to cold).
Going to do a 4 oz, bottom soon.
This build, well, I played with the carbon and it looks weird... I considered putting it aside and starting our next build.

york looking great! would love to see you do a version with no wing and a split tail
https://instagram.com/grasshoppersurfboards/
Love the split-fin thing.
You just took this thing to a
whole nuvvah level.
it's a spin off idea from on of Bill's "thrailkill" post on a thread.
I rode it yesterday in shitty punchy waves. It rode a lot stiffer then I expected (those back fins are quite small).
I didn't surf for long so....
Yesterday was a beautiful sunny 2-3 foot straight offshore day, perfect little running waves.
I have ridden this one with a few different fin set ups and was thinking it was best as a thruster.
I took a bunch of boards down yesterday to try.
Thought i'd warm up on this board with 3" 'thin' single foil rears in it.
It changed the board and went good straight off the bat.
...At speed it gripped, and at slow it slipped.
I ended up not changing boards and rode it for over 3 hours.
