Put on a new traction pad yesterday and must have not gotten part of it clean enough because the pad is coming up. Would a hot glue gun be safe to use on kick tech? I think I know the answer but my wife has one and I lost my can of Super 77 spray
Hot glue might be a little risky, and I don't think it's the best adhesive choice for a trac pad anyway. If you go to get a new can of contact cement, try the 3M drywall corner bead adhesive instead of super 77.

Thanks Mike. I ended up finding my can of 77, but I'm going to pick up a tube of that corner bead on the next Home Depot trip.
I put the MR 's on the M80. Handled 1 foot slop no pb....lolz
So far, this board has handled all conditions thrown at it in both sides of the atlantic. One board quiva? absolutely...lol
i keep forgetting to bring the quad trailers when i'm in Maroc.....Sometimes, when taking off late, i need that little extra speed to carry the momentum which is when the quad comes into play..:) I love this board. Quad set up has so far worked like a charm

I've done that with an M80 before too
Just be careful if the waves get too big, it will be a PITA to control....
I posted these up on the erBB but wanted to share with you guys my new wider Chopstick from the Coil guys. I hope I can get it out soon, otherwise I'll have to wait for the weekend. Looks pretty cool Mike! It was one of the most painless experiences ordering a board. I hope this and my Blur will be all I need for a while.
Be careful with that thing, its is super fast and super HP
Thanks. I'm curious to see how it rides after reading your reviews. I think mine will probably have a more lower end since it seems a little wider. But I'd like to see the upper and lower limits of this board. I think I might have to go to the Blur on bigger days, but that is fine with me since I love that board as well.
And sorry for the larger pics. I tried to make them smaller but this board doesn't seem to like resizing the picture with the code I entered. Oh well.
I just acquired 3 new-to-me Coils in the last two months and I'm stoked on all of them. Now I'm trying to sell off another board so I can order another one! I'm so happy with the secondhand ones its really time for another custom.
Fedex delivered! Outstanding work on these two, they feel unreal under my arm. Right on time for the swell! let the stoke begin!
5'6x18.5 Widerboard
5'9x18.25 Qualifier
Any reviews Ivan on the widerboard and qualifier? getting really to order another board for Morocco this winter.
Been having lots of fun on the M80 and M80 slim in Florida. Perfect boards and super easy to surf.
The quad on the M80 worked really well. Tried the Quad on M80 Slim with asymetrical rears and didnt like it much.
Seemed like there was too much comotion underneath the board. I put the thruster back and board started firing again. It seems like the M80 slim likes to be surfed agressively.
That middle fin on the thruster is awesome for launching off the bottom turn. Super happy with these boards..:)
The WB is fantastic, its a very good all around shortboard and the bridge between M80 and a good wave HP shortboard (performance wise), it grovels incredibly well and can handle HH without breaking a sweat. We've had a nasty flatspell so the Qualifier has yet to see a decent wave for it. However I had a longer Q a few years back and it was a great HPSB (better than the Lost Whiplash ir replaced), doesnt need a perfect wave or lots of push to get goin.

Very cool Ivan. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna order the Widerboard. It seems like the perfect board for Morocco since its consistently head high during the winter. Then have the M80 slim when its slighly smaller. I have had the whiplash before and it seems like it wants a perfect clean wave to work. The qualifier you have looks nasty sharp...lol yewww
maybe a 6 3 or 6 4 for big swell in Morocco...lol I have a blur that really didn't see much action in Florida. Hopefully, we will have a little bump so I can test it well and finalize the orders. Just curious, where does the blur sits b/w all these...lol
And to answer amine's question, the blur is "in between" the widerboard and qualifier. It runs about 1/4" wider overall compared to qualifier, where the wb is ~ 1/2 wider. Entry rocker not reduced quite as much as wb either.

Thank you Mike..:) I think I want to order widerboard soon..:)
that is salvo on a smaller one.. Good times for sure. Wish someone took some pics at the "other" point we surfed. those waves are engraved in the memory banks for a long time (hopefully).
What fins have you guys been running in the Chopstick? My medium AM2s that I like so much feel like they are lacking a little bit of drive in that board. Also, I've had one or two larger open-faced waves where I felt out of control. However, I've done some really good turns on that board so I don't want to go too far away from the AM2s.
Large AM fins maybe? Maybe one of the "essential series" sets?
I would go with the large AMs. They are quite a bit bigger than the AM2's and they will feel it but they have tons of drive and you can always play around with smaller center fins to loosen them up.
We were talking about the same thing this morning. Every Coil board I've ever ridden gets into waves so easily; I mean, I would try a friend's board before I lost all the weight and it would be too small for me to ride correctly but I could catch the waves no problem. I'm talking a .82 board that's 2 1/4 thick being ridden my a 200 lb me.
I don't think its the construction as much as how dialed Mike's rockers are
I just got another email from a customer asking about this. We have gotten consistent reports, for as long as I've been working at Coil, of boards catching waves easier than expected.
Maybe it is our rockers but I doubt it. I think it is something to do with the construction.
The physics of the transition from paddling to dropping in is fascinating. There were some fun discussions of that on sways a few years ago. The moment when the board rides up on its bow wave and begins to plane, the role of gravity, static and dynamic lift, etc.
I'm ~190 lbs. and I would've never thought I'd be able to ride a 1.0 Blur but I took the chance and love it. Like ifallalot, I've ridden my friend's .82 Widerboard and i was able to catch them in small gutless waves. It was really fun once I was up on the wave but paddling around wasn't ideal. I would never go down that low for a daily driver but I was really surprised I could catch waves on such a small board.
I ordered the wider Chopstick because I felt like my Stretch Super Buzz wasn't very good on the small and mushy waves but was fun on some more punchier beachbreaks or bigger than waist high days. I was hoping to get a board that I could ride every day when I didn't want to work hard to ride my Blur. When I got the board I was surprised that the nose rocker was more than my Super Buzz. But I guess the Coil tech worked again because it catches the small waves so much easier. Took it out on a nice 3-5+ day and wasn't sure what the upper end on this board would be since the lower end was so good. But I got some fun ones with some good size on it. I think I have found exactly what I was looking for. Thank you again Mike and the Coil crew!
so the coil foil is very important to how the boards pick up energy
the bulk of the volume is concentrated under the chest of the rider ( belly button to shoulders ) then thinns out quite a bit in the tail and nose ( most models ) this keeps the rider supported while letting the tail sit " in the water " .... as the wave energy begins to push it lets the tail tilt / curve into the power and the mass of the rider also get tilted at the same time the thin foil of the nose penetrates the water and ! presto you are in !
othe boards do not have this luxury
i also noticed that my coils without the coilfoil caught waves more " normal "
i think Qualifiers showcase this phenomana best ( just my opinion )
in regards to the tech and in addition to the points mentioned above, could it be that the PU/PE foam board basically acts as a dampener when meeting the energy of the wave when paddling for the wave and the coil does the opposite and somehow feeds off the energy of the wave?
I love the board, but I lost weight and now its simply too much volume for me. When I got the board I was about 220, and it rode well down to about 205. I'm 193 now and it's just too much board.
Got a new to me 6'1 19 1/4 2 1/4 blur awhile back and been getting to surf it that last couple of days. Just want to say the thing feels great. Much lower volume than my other coils but seems to catch waves just as easily and stick some late drops as well as respond to user input at the drop of a dime. Seemingly paddles better than my m80. Hoping mike still has a file on the board so I can use it to tweak future boards!
All throughout this swell event the thought to ride a non-Coil board hasn't even crossed my mind.
5-6 Chopstick during Hurricane Lowell
5-9 Wide-widerboard on the slack days Monday and Tuesday
6-2 Widerboard during Hurricane Marie
Stoked. Even though I would have been fine with anyone of the boards in all of these conditions its good to have everything dialed in. I need to order one more just because. Maybe a swallowtail since I already have square, squash, and round
The chopstick is my favorite board right now.I surfed today in head high surf to slightly overhead and it went real good.It was my first day surfing it on bigger waves and it felt like I was on my normal shortboard. I was running some JS 1 fins that fcs doesnt make anymore.I want to try some larger sides and a smaller trailer like some AM2..The chopstick is a really solid design.

I've been riding it with MF1s in the front and a random old center fin that's much smaller. I just got a single MF2 center in the mail today so I have an AM2 type thing going now with the smaller, matched center fin.
It was big on Saturday and could have ridden it today as well, but I liked the 6-2 for all the water that was moving. I'll be riding the Chopstick tomorrow and this weekend. Unless another crazy hurricane happens the 6-2 will proabbly be put away until late fall or winter
5-9 Wide-widerboard on the slack days Monday and Tuesday
6-2 Widerboard during Hurricane Marie
How is that wider-widerboard? I'm thinking of ordering one for grovel days. Is it pretty fun for smallish days? How low can it go?
I have a WB and it's probably one of my favorite all time good wave boards. Seems like a slightly shorter, wider, and more full-railed version of the WB might be sick for small days. Plus, it would seem to lend to easy transitions from one board to the next.

I picked it up secondhand, and it is one of the best purchases I've ever made. If I had to have one board for Southern CA, it would work. I've ridden it in well OH waves as well as serious knee-high weak shit. The rails on it are the same as my other boards, I don't think that fuller rails would help out. Its the length, width, and most importantly, the lower rocker that makes this board click.
The chopstick is quickly becoming my all time favorite board! It catches waves so easy. It turns on a dime. The only problem I had so far was stalling to get barreled it just doesn't want to slow down. This design is a homerun in my opinion!
Cheers to all the Coil crew, here's to hoping all the USA contingent is enjoying our Labor Day holiday. We'll be back to laboring tomorrow along with the rest of you.
Chased the Hurricane Cristobal swell up to the Outer Banks. Spotted a Coil that looked 4-5 years old that a guy was surfing. I need a board shaped for barrels Mike! The 6'6 "short" board I had shaped years ago when I was lighter isn't really floaty enough. The Megamind is great as long as I can get in early but late drops are nearly impossible in pitching tubes. Let's talk over the phone Mike!
I think the Blur rocker bed is a solid bet for a tube shooter. Mellow enough entry rocker to paddle and catch waves but it isn't going to dig on a steep drop and it has some built in drive for backdooring sections. Got the longest tube of my life last year on my Blur. A little wider nose and narrower round pin tail would make it even better for a dedicated barrel board.
Qualifier is great in the tube too. Especially in bigger, good waves. It's just not going to be as forgiving or work as well in smaller barrels.
Some beauty shots of my Chopstick all locked and loaded. This wave I was surfing at wedges together for a steep drop that was awesome with all that rocker, but the swell direction and tide was causing it to mush out really bad on the shoulder. Still so much fun. I have a 6-2 Widerboard that's my winter board, but the Chopstick is my go-to better wave board. Its great to ride a 5-6 in OH waves. With this board, there is zero out of control feeling like you get on a board that short in waves that size but it has the attendant throwability on turns that a board that short provides. Sick.
MF2 fronts with MF1 rears are the setup. It was big enough Saturday AM that I think I could have ran the MF2 all the way around but I didn't
Had this pic on my camera for a week, wanted to thank the Coil team for such a sick quiver, all their hard work and their giant desire to give me the best boards and service over the last 3-4 years. Goes without saying I'll be back for more; In the meantime I will surf the snot out of these :)
