Thanks for caring! We´re all fine down here, its nothing short of a ****ing mess, the Mexican military and Federales are doing a great job and things are getting back to normal pretty quickly. My business got damaged but nothing that cant be repaired with effort and time.
Its not all bad, I got to surf some amazing waves, waves that I havent seen in at least a couple years :)
So im new to swaylocks. i joined this forum just to be involved with this coil subculture. i just want to say that i will be sending Mike my down payment on my new M80 (unless he suggests something else) tomorrow morning. if anyone reads this i have a few questions: 1. Can i get a board without the KICK tech? yes, i understand its better, but i just would like options...i am American after-all. 2. FCS or Futures? i currently ride Futures in almost every board i own, however i fear they will be too heavy due to the construction of the board. 3. Colors? do they have like...Swatches to look at? 4. How long did you all wait for your boards? 5. I am looking for an all-arounder-round tail...you think the M80 is the way to go?

what kind of surf is your " local spot "
how long have you been surfing , fitness level , and on a scale of 1-10 ( 1 being a kook on a soft top and 10 being Kelly Slater ) how would you rate yourself
only Kick
colors are a surprise , just mention what u like and it might be an option
fcs2 and futures weigh almost the same now
some boards take longer than others but the norm is 8 weeks
as for my local spot...Id go OCMD, but ive been surfing Assateague a HELL of alot due to the whole "replenish the beaches" idea which wiped out several excellent sand bars. they will return slowly since the tourist season is over. as far as skill from 1-10...I can say im about a 5-6ish lol...put it this way...im very comfortable out there. Yeah i have NO experience with the new FCS system. a buddy said his were tough to get in and out at first. i guess that's cool color is a surprise...as long as its not like pink...yeah i really dont want pink. i gave him the down payment today. i havent heard from him yet, but i have faith. alot of my boards now are more all-arounders due to my area. one day it could be pumping, the next...poooop! I noticed something too...i see numbers that i assume are volume calculations. as you know most companies put the volume in liters...Mike has them as say: 1.09ft3...what is the formula or how can i translate that in order to tell him what my usual volume is?
Hey meddles. As for timing, I put a deposit down on July 26, and my new one is in the hands of FEDEX now, so 8 weeks is probably about right. Definitely worth the wait. check this site if you havent already to see various models. http://c.slum.se google "cu ft to cu liters". And you'll get several calculators that will handle the calculation. Hardest part in my opinion is picking which board to get. The construction is second to none, and the boards work great. Oh yeah, and standard gray/black/white is the fastest color combo.
thanks Pkovo...i figured i could just google something about it. he just emailed me and was asking for my stats...height, weight, experience...what kinda boards i ride mostly. i am truly excited. i honestly dont care about color. i havent owned a board with color ever...i dont know why. White is just clean looking i guess. i figured id try something different. every girl i date asks me the same questions when they see the stack of boards in the corner: "why are they all white? cant you get colored ones?" i cant wait bro for real. its been a few years since i gotta board built for me personally. i seriously cant find a damn negative comment yet. oh by the way...cold water doesnt affect them does it? that may sound like a stupid question but it gets damn cold in the NE.
no issues with cold . just be sure to keep them under 160 F and you are safe
to be to concerned with litters and Cubic feet on the first one . just tell MD where you want it to float you too ( belly button , diaphram , clavical . ect ) he will nail it
Hey guys, just traveled to the US and brought back a Coil Blur in Kicktech... I'm super stoked, the board is amazing. However I managed to drop it big time twice, and have a tiny ding which may or may not still be water tight, so it needs repairing (trust me, if it was a regular poly board it will be dinged all over).
The guy who fixes my boards here where I live probably never saw a Coil. Is there anything I should point out to him so he knows the proper way to fix it? I don't think he will be able to emulate the kick tech texture on the ding though... any tips or recommendations?
I really appreciate it! Here's a picture of the board... sharing the stoke!
You probably already got the little crack fixed, but as a general tip there's an easy way to figure out if ding goes through to foam (if it does you HAVE to use epoxy). Suck on the ding and see if you can move air back and forth. If you can, it's into foam. If not, it's just a surface crack.
Fixing dings is same as any eps/epoxy board. We always tell customers to keep some two-part epoxy putty handy because it's great for quick fixes on most small dings.
Thanks for the reply Mike! I haven't fixed it yet.
I do have some ding repair putty which should work for epoxy... Do you think if I use it I won't even need to take it to the repair guy? I always thought it was more of a quick session saver but the fix wouldn't last long... do you think if I use it I could skip paying for fixing the ding?
Here's a picture of the putty I have, it's called Session Saver? Do you think by using this I'm good to go?
Perfect. The only reason not to use those putties on small Coil dings is minor cosmetics. They bond aggressively and are plenty strong structurally.
Sweet! I'll probably use then instead of paying for a fix. I'll fix it properly if I get major ding then.
I have to say Mike, I don't know how you do it, but dims on that Blur are super narrow and thin for me... yet some how, as long as it's not mushy, the board catches anything! and goes anywhere I want it to.
I'll spread the word here in Brazil, let more people know how awesome these boards are.
Man...i cant wait for my new board:/ i thought i'd be o.k. with the wait but its killing me. Ive been trying not to bug Mike too much...its hard. i did get a 5 fin set of AM's in FCS2, also got a set of those adapter things to put the old FCS in. Man those fins are pricey! any complaints? Performance issues? i already ride the AM's so i think ill be ok...Thank God for friends...i got the set pretty damn cheap....somebody post some Pics!!!
Dude it sucks...i hate waiting...wish i could just drive down and get it. im just waiting for that email that says, "hey man, its done." im just really curious as to what im gonna get. i mean, i know what i told him, but...i just want to see his take on it. i trust him. this is just the first Coil ive gotten and im antsy. i havent told anyone yet about it...just kinda mentioned it and showed some pics to see what a few buddies said. all i know is...Imma need dat soon! haha! im gonna surf the hell out of it this winter.

They are worth the wait. Not to rub it in, but I tested my new one today :-)
i have an M-80 round tail coming...ive never had a round tail, but i rode one this summer that was for small waves in a bit heavier conditions and it held great. i like smaller boards that you can push to the limit...i am a firm believer that if the shape is true, it will handle it...you can see it shine a little bit.
Got an M-80 round tail this summer... The outline is sooo sexy. sometimes when I walk by it in the garage, I stop and look for a second or two (no joke). Had it in the bigger swells we had this summer and it was money. I still kept my original M-80 diamond tail from 4 years ago (in the same dimensions, just a little thinner) as I cant part with it. I buy and sell alot of boards, and when people come over to pick up, they are always intrigued by my Coil quiver. Then I show them the 4 year old M-80 in mint condition....They always leave saying "I gotta get me one of those."
im really glad to hear that the board performs...i have been known for bringing boards too small for bigger swells...sometimes they work. actually ive had some of my best days on boards under 6ft in slightly OH surf. They just get all squirelly and make the day a bit more unpredictable. i really cant wait for this board...
Here's a few sketchy exits at my shorepound spot. Flinging the board up into the air is the only way to not drive the board into the sand. These were all on my Spring Fish. My boards take a beating and keep on ticking.
So i got a hold of Mike...My board should be shipping early this week!! Hoorraaaayyy! Any how, are their any specific waxes to use? And are their any traction pads to stay away from? Ive read that the Dakine pads suck, i use Gorilla pads personally....Please let me know.
hey mike love the widerboard I ordered earlier his year. Was wondering if you've ever done something like the Vulcan archetype? It runs along he same hydrodynamics as the chopstick just a little pointer...x2 lol. I'd love to order a small wave groveler similar to the one I was riding in Hawaii. I think your mega mind might be the next thing in my quiver! Unless you got another suggestion!!
It's on the almighty google! it looks like the tomo shape I think it's called the wizard? either way I think Firewires are overpriced, and the Hand shapes from him prbably aren't "hand shaped" Mike I need your suggestion in my liiiiiiife :D wahts the big difference between the megamind m80 and m80 sliM?
i literally received my M80 today...I have not had the chance to test it yet however Mike is right. It is a stubby version of a hpsb. I kept mine at 5'10" and put a round tail on it. The outline is a bit tricky, at first i was thinking it would have a fuller rail, but Mike kept the performance end up a bit and kept the rails thinner. i have to say, the board is such a motivator to even look at. its soooo light, but feels strong as hell. BTW...this is my first of many Coils...i will post pics ASAP.
There's several ways to upload photos here, for me the easiest way is using the "add new file" box that shows under the space where you write your posts. Really easy off an iPad if you have the photos on the device.
I hope he can report in, but understand if he can't right now. Priorities get re-arranged after a hurricane hit.

MM is very wide and curvy grovel board, M80 is a stub hpsb, M80 slim is slightly narrower version of M80.
