Obay, what fin set up are you using a quad? Five fins or thruster?

Quad FCS2 Performer XL sides and Performer L rears are the best overall I've found. Not stiff, nice release and good hold through carves. The FCS2 MR Twins with mini center nub also a blast but you need a bit of a steeper wall where you're not really trying to pump down the line hunting sections. Those feel unreal good when you get the right turn section, they just lock in and whip around faster than any other setup. The FCS2 Keel quads felt pretty good too but I only was able to get a few waves with that setup. I'm sure for a longer lined up wall where hauling ass is priority those would be best. I tried it as a thruster the other day but waves weren't very good and I'm honestly not a fan of thrusters. If the waves were bigger and chunky/choppy it might be ok for the added control but quads/twins just feel better to me. They feel more like a skateboard which is what my background was before I picked up surfing.

A couple of reviews. I lost some weight in past year or so, which left my coils feeling "corky". Having a little concern about whether the weight will stay off, I looked to the used coil market to score some lower volume coils. Picked up a 5'10" Springfish last summer from a member here. What an amazingly fun board. Close in length width, and even plan shape to my disc. I surfed it from thigh (with form and push) to slightly overhead (hurricane) and it went really well. Felt more High Performance than it looked. Clicked with it pretty much instantly. Sadly, was stolen last month. Picked up a 5'8" Chopstick from another member here last month. Still need further testing, but had it out yesterday in some chest/shoulder high punchy waves and it felt great. Gets into waves very easy. Felt nice and loose and quick....really quick. Excited for this one as I've been missing a board for better waves for quite a while. I also tried it softer kind of mushy waist to chest lined up waves. Waves running through deep-water. It wasn't great for that. Not a groveler, at least not for me.

Going to make a better edit with some of the better waves I've caught in the past few months soon so will report back. As far as fins go with this Megamind this is what I've learned - FCS2 MR twins + mini trailer - These are hands down the most fun and free-feeling fin set I own. Mini trailer allows you to surf boards with non-twin fin placement and get away with it. They're great if the waves don't require a lot of pumping to get to sections. So squirty out of bottom turns it feels like you're flying and gaining so much speed. Super whippy on completion of turns. Better on frontside forehand waves vs backhand. A slightly out of control feeling at times but I love that slight unpredictability and feeling of squirtiness. Makes turns in weaker waves more interesting with the looseness. Bottom turn speediness helps with getting vertical for airs too. FCS2 Matt Biolos Split Quad Keels - fastest fins out of the gate, usually use these when beating fast sections is required and there are lots of closeouts. They hold in on hard turns really well and even release pretty well when pushed to a certain point. Can sometimes feel too tracky if the waves don't have enough push. FCS2 XL Performer side fins with the L quad rears - Best overall set if you had to choose one pair of fins. Good speed out of the gate and enough rake to draw nice lines. Holds well through turns and really no surprises on feel. My go to fin due to their consistency when the waves are better and there's pressure to surf well in a crowd. Nice to have them all tbh but that's what I've learned so far from surfing them in a variety of conditions in the same model board for the past few years.

I like the durability for sure. They aren't indestructible which is good because they would ride like shit! The shape is as important as the tech for sure. Talk to Mike and see what he comes up with.

Damn I most be getting old I'm starting to replete myself.

Had Kirk shape me a twin fin like the DHD Mini-Twin that Asher Pacey surfs. Here's my first session ever on a twin. Feels pretty awesome. Can't wait to get more time in on her. Surfed the FCS2 Modern Keels and Power Twin fins so far, keels felt a bit looser and the Power Twins had more hold with the raked-ness. I'll report back with more intricate details when I surf her more. Love the freedom and looseness so far. That board looks like it would beg to be taken to Central America. Get in early deep Bottom turn set your rail then look for the exit sign to get out of the tube
