Thats one good lookin Blur!... man Im starting to think I need another swallow tail., hehe!
Yeah bout time I get a squash tail. I'll have to get that ordered up pretty soon. Though I did like the smoothness of the rounded tail I had before. Any thoughts on swallow vs. squash? Figure the lines I'd draw surfing the squash will be squarish and more of an up and down sort of line.
For me, swallow tails beat squash any day, more drive, lift and maximum effective rail yet loose when it has to be, specially with single concaves. You're right about the squash, just look at the pros, its more skatey and flarey, perfect for impressing the judges.
But as usual, it all boils down to what you like or want to achieve. Im biased towards swallows and rounds :)
Oldie but a goodie. I'm a little nervous about the dark colors in hot Florida sun. What do you think? Tempted to sand a start again. The paint job was a gift from a kid I helped start shaping.
Hey GT, other than melting your wax, it shouldn't be a problem. You'll probably flip it over when laying on beach anyway. You'd have to abuse it really badly to have any thermal issues.
Thanks, MD. Good to know. The kid is an art major. Not an engineer. I was waiting to see if anyone picked up on the impossible gear setup. They will never turn. But look very cool. ha.

Just got my Megamind a few months ago and have been getting it dialed in. Really have to get your weight back to crank the turns but it catches waves effortlessly and is fun to ride. Here's a few clips from my recent sessions at Rincon in California and out at Monster Hole this past Tuesday. More to come in the near future.
just got amped to surf after watching those open faces....nice lip smackers!
MM will treat you more than good, it does not surf like any fish Ive tried! That board can be really loose with the right fins. back foot all the way back.
Fav setup is rw's with k21 grom fronts in the rear.
Salty what are the "rw" fins you mentioned?Just got my MM as well and looking for some suggestions (my dims 6'1 x195 )- favorites on my daily driver are the MF1
Edit: found them... Roberts ... they look good. I have a set of the fcs II Performer XL fins to test soon as well...
^ never had that issue with a coil as they've always been flush with the board.
Pretty freak accidents so far with my boards. Mainly due to noobs/kooks at Huntington pier. I should probably avoid that place.. Anyway. I'm close to ordering a new board soon and was wondering if anyone else was going to do so. We can order together and save money on shipping. Hit me up if you plan to order soon.
I know the middle 1 is mine but the 2 roundtails are so close to each other its hard to tell.I like them all.I had a long day at work today and was suprised by waves after work.Just got on to check swaylocks and my 2 boards are looking back at me saying come pick us up.So stoked!!
I don't know, the cslum site was put up by one of our customers. I'll check with him...
Meanwhile, the boss has been talking about updating our website. There really wasn't much need when we were backed up 4+ months, but now that we've increased production we might do a real website.
edit to add that was certainly no cease and desist; we love the cslum site :) hell, somebody started a Coil Facebook page a while back and I didn't even know about it until a couple of weeks ago.
If I had to choose one, I would rather see an official site revamped with as much informative info the Brass bros/ Coil fam are willing to share.
I have a hard time explaining my boards to random guys who have thier tounges hanging out when they fondle my boards. Social media is great also.... many Insta's to see....
"not that you guys need help, getting more orders" .... lol
hello Mike, Try to install instagram on your iPhone. It's a quick easy way to get a lot of followers. Pretty much where all the users are flocking now.
You can easily upload photos/videos. Just ask one of the groms around you and they will quickly give you a 5 min tutorial....haha
and let us know your user account once you install it..:)
Thanks guys, we're considering all of the above. But we still won't be doing too much tech talk because too many people are watching everything we say to get clues.

I bet I know who one of them is.
Would be nice to see an updated site. I often go there only to see that it hasn't been updated. Something that shows costs? I saw one of your boards here in Hawaii recently. Very nice work. I wish I was 20 pounds lighter and 30 years younger. Hah, if I was 30 years younger, I'd probably be 20 pounds lighter.
Thanks, sharkcountry. Like I said, there wasn't much use in doing a new website until we could build the # of boards to support it. We were backed up for a long time.
btw, base price is still $600 and pack/ship anywhere in US is $125 (for most boards, big ones cost a little more). And that $125 includes Oahu. Out islands we don't have any choice but to bump it up.
Been riding this babe for the last couple of days and Im blown away, incredibly well rounded board, speed, drive, great in the pocket... just perfect! Really like how it just fits my style so well. It feels like the stepup/higher performance version of my 5'4 M80-S swallow and I just love that!. It makes me wonder why I never got a WB before.
Insanely light at 3.5 lbs!! Mike and the Brasington Bros rised the bar even higher, I cant notice anything that sets this build appart from the rest of my boards to make it that light, feels just as solid as the rest. Being this light I thought it could be an issue in strong winds/chop, but it is living proof that boards under 4 lbs are nothing but better in small waves regardless of conditions and theres no drawbacks to it when waves get more oomph.
Big thanks for this awesome board Coil Team, it is safe to say I'll re-order this board as many times as it takes so dont you dare miss the file!.... even if it takes a while to go through this one first :)
The 2 new boards I just got from Mike and Kirk are by far the lightest boards I have ever had or held.Truly amazing what these guys are doing.I will brag and say that I can't wait for Mexico. The forecast is looking good.
Thanks so much Mike for the M80 Slim. Exactly what I ordered..:) Shortboard/Performance feel type with slightly wider noise for easy entry.
Turns are so sharp and love the easy entry. Love how the board stays nicely calm on the take off and doesn't slide out like a bar of soap..lol At same time, you can easily push on gas pedal.
The mayhem future fins are so nice. I Don't even think about fins.
Thanks so much. Question, what is wider board?
M80's are the ones I feel confortable surfing. Is it possible to order even a bigger bigger wave version for the coming winter next year?
Here's a shot from this past Saturday in South Melbourne Beach on my 6'0 x 23" Megamind. The summer doldrums are on the way... What's the best grovel shape in the Coil lineup? Thinking I want to pick up an egg type shape.

Wow Nice shot ! Looks like the MM was doing its thing. I got a few that day as well just north of ya.
Hey Megamind riders, I need fin recommendations for a 5'8" Megamind I just got used, but have to run out and get some fins for it today. It has Futures fins, which I abandoned years ago, but the deal was too good to pass up. I'm a bigger guy (6' and 190 right now). Thanks in advance!

Hey sak - I am about your size and just picked up a 5'9 MM -- only a couple sessions so still haven't tested many fin combos. Bigger fins all around feel pretty good for me. I have FCS II and so far GAM fronts with stock carver rears is pretty solid. All 4 are about the same size. Good drive and still can push the fat tail around off the top pretty good. I have heard good things about 4 PC7s as well (not sure the futures equivalent). I tried smaller rear fins at first and was a little too loose and lost some drive/projection off the bottom turns but still was fun and super tail slidey... hope this helps.
Thanks. I spoke with MD and he suggested starting with equal medium fins all-around and go from there. He also suggested borrowing fins from friends, but unfortunately most my friends 'round here ride FCS and my one friend who rides mostly futures is away on a trip. I decided to patronize a local surf shop that was hit hard by Sandy and is now getting hit again by ongoing post-storm road construction and bought two sets of basic (plastic) F6's in hopes of surfing it Saturday afternoon.

You've heard of step-up boards, this is the Coil Light-Up.
Nothing else like it on this planet. At least 20% lighter than the lightest PU.
