kind of cool, started as this
^^^ Pretty cool that the shape fits the theme
Latest creation: supergroveler. 5'3"x21 1/4"x2 5/16"
Shaped and glassed back in June but forgot about this thread. This was done after acquiring all the tools from an experienced backyarder who decided he was done shaping. Modified hitachi and futures install kit, among other things, made life real easy.
Like it best as a thruster but after surfing TS gert this past week here in the southeast I'm pretty amped on surfing HP shortboards again
Hi Swaylockers. After YEARS of lurking here and learning a lot I finally shaped my first board. I copied the template of my 5'6 Vec Surfboards Chub and beefed it up a bit with winter wetsuits in mind. Final dimensions are 5'6 x 21 x 2 5/16 with a flat deck carrying foam right out to a full rail. I haven't surfed yet but she's going to be a paddler for sure.
I had it glassed by Keith at Twinlight's Glassing in Gloucester, MA. I was really happy with his finish work. My shaping...well let's say I learned a lot I learned a lot from this board and already ordered two more blanks and have made some templates from scratch. I'll have a go at glassing them myself as well. This board is a little crude but had to start somewhere right..
Board on the left is the original that I borrowed from. I shaped mine out of EPS using sanding blocks, sandpaper, and drywall screen for the rails. Just wanted to introduce myself. Currently living in Vermont but often on the coast to surf Cape Cod.
Great job on that first shape. Its not always easy to copy a board for your first go, but rather make something up as you go. As far as glassing, I would be happy to give you a hand or even let you use my area if you needed. I'm about an hour closer to you than Keith is(he glassed my first board too). I can route your boxes and whatnot if you needed. Happy to help a fellow swaylockian. Just throwing it out there. PM me if you have any interest. All the best
I actually prefer the lines and the slightly more forward fin position of the board on the right. Great job on your first board.
too much guys in water, my mates go on alternative sports :
PVC 3mm Spin Template. super stuff!!! so easy to work with.
cold water, warm heart
This was my first shot a performance board. Was board number 11 for me but I've only made logs and two twinnies. Color came out darker than I'd like but still cool. First time putting in futures as well.
A Speed Diamond in the process, 6 x 19 3/4 x 2 1/2.
