Yeah that was my comment. Unlike the exhaust chutes on older hitachi planers, the one made for the p20st only snaps on (& falls off easily); it is not held on by a swivel bracket. I decided to upgrade mine and put it centered on the planer. Otherwise the machine is ok, it has a 5.5 amp motor. The rear handle is a bit odd but I haven’t messed with that yet. Not fond of the power cord placement either. But the exhaust chute was the biggest bummer and that is much better now.
well there you go.. I'm just a backyard hobbiest with the new ryobi planer. I was going to get the P20ST but I liked the depth adjustment on the ryobi better. I haven't investigated mod-ing an on the fly adjustment yet.. but did play with the exhaust, putting a right elbow on it, with the hose coming up over my shoulder. I found it to actually mess with the planer balance and send vibrations into the cut, tearing the foam. Went back to straight off the side with the vacuum hose.. vibration gone.. I will rig a hose straight up to the ceiling eventually and give it another go..
Sadly here in Aust, we're somewhat limited to the available options on the market here.
white box , black resin
Zack - I think McDing thought the black was a pin line not a cut away in the box - what kind of box is it? We don't get those ones with the cut aways here in the states (at least I've never seen em) they seem like they would work better than the normal fu box.
"We ain't on our way to Wembley,we ain't gonna win the league. No matter how much they let us down - Westham's still our team"...
Yeah there dion boxes most guys in oz use them, been putting them in with laminating resin too and seem to bond better to the wall of the cut.
As far back as 1969, I would modify the smooth sided FU boxes, (on my personal boards) by cutting four shallow ''locking channels'' on each side of the box. Then set the box in with lam resin. The finished appearance was much like the box under discussion. It certainly made for a stronger instillation.
SHAPER SINCE 1958
Similar to the Chinook box that is/was used in Wind Surf boards. Have seen a few used in Surfboards over the years. Strong box. I think if you want a super strong box these days; the Futures Longboard Box is the way to go. With a one pass set up and install; Leash Plugs, small fin boxes and longboard boxes are a breeze.
Did this fish for a buddy last month.
Keith - besides the exhaust how do you like that planer? I tried it and it felt weird, the handle anyways, like I wasn't pushing through the foam if that makes sense haha.
I'm taking this one for it's first surf. 9' stringerless HPOFB. (Moderator, sorry for the big pic)
I got a new load of Innegra, It comes out semi-clear!
