Small, lightweight devices strapped to hand or used double handed to allow the bodysurfer to plane higher out of the water or further away from the 'curl' of a wave. Traditional materials were balsa or plywood - now commercially available in expanded foam or fibreglass. Portable, manoeuvrable and extremely individual. Possibly the most esoteric and Zen like (in terms of simplicity) of all waveriding methods bar pure bodysurfing. Allows unridable waves - in traditional surfing terms - to become fun and decent surf to become outrageous. A great cross-over between large handboards and small paipo boards has been noted. Can be home-made in a weekend and ridden for life.
