PIGMENT: finely ground solids which are the basis of color in paint; pigment is the fine solid particles used to give color and opacity. A color additive put in resin to produce a solid or opaque color. Pigments contain solids, and can be used to make a resin opaque. The higher the proportion of pigment, the more opaque the resin. The only pure pigment is white. See also tint, transparent.
