WHy are they so much?? put a 300-500 dollar board next to them and you will see the quality difference. Atention to small details and and experinced craftsmen are what set these boards above the rest.. The ride quality wont change for your extra dollar, but you make your own board and compare it to these guys and you will appreciate there work .. Yea there spendy but if you have the money .. go for it.
so just get yourself one, you know you want it. What are you going to wait till you need hip replacements and a triple bypass, just get one. Unless you got a crack habit, or 3 wifes with child support you can float some cash. Hell squirel away some cash in a coffee can every month, or sell off some of those rotting peices of foam on e-bay that you haven't ridden in 5 years, sell your neighbors dog that's been bothering you for years. Your only on this lump of dirt for a very short time. What, you think your going to surf forever?
I asked around town for a "garage" shaper...for the guy that shapes all of the locals boards...for the guy "in the know". I found him. He shaped me a surfboard. It was a classic style longboard. It was only $1650. Expensive I know, but I got a tail block and an extra stringer. The board looks so so good. It sucks in the water. I surfed it once in fun waves. It did everything I wanted it to, but I tell ya, no one said anything. Notta one "who shaped that beaut?" -- not one inquiry. I recently sold that board. Asked $1000...got $500. Took that $500 and got me a custom board from the worlds best longboarder. The board is EXACTLY like my man rides. Exactlty. They don't make them "off the rack" that way. It rides pretty good I guess. Sorta flat so I pearl alot. Fin is huge and it it hard to get the board around in waves. No leash which is cool (except the time I lost it and it smashed into the jetty, and oh yeah they time it nearly broke that kids arm.) The board is sick. It doesn't ride the same as my other board, but I am sure as I emulate the master it will suit me just fine. Fellas, this ride -- even with all the custom colors etc -- only ran me $1500. And now everyone know me and my board. Life is good. I like names.
Do we really want to keep having people post topics such as this? I mean, let's compare surfboards to houses. You can take the same 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 4 acre house out of Palmdale and stick it in Malibu and watch the price jump from $150,000 to like $800,000-$1,000,000. Now, lets take an unknown house builder and have him build one house in Manhattan Beach and lets take a well known, respected and proven house builder and have him build a house in Manhattan Beach using the same blue prints as the other builder. Who's house do you think will sell for more? I think the answer to all of these questions is pretty obvious, so please stop asking. Those that ask these questions are just opening a can of worms and trying to rile the group. Can we grow up and move past the cost issue finally? http://www.mastermindsurfboards.com
Because there are people who will pay that much. Willing buyer + willing seller = price.
dear god. enough already. let's not start another round 20+ messages devoted to cooperfish bashing. please. i'm begging you.

Some people think it's a Far Out Gadget. If the price is a concern, you can't afford it. So why short your mind thinking of it?
Mr. J.A. Could you make me a board for $1100.00? I know you can.
