does anyone know where to get blocks of extruded polystyrene foam in long lengths (12'-16')? i think some of the paddleboard guys use it , ive had no luck on the internet. any info is appreciated. thanks
I don't know the chemical composition of the foam. The testing that I've done is pretty basic. When I first obtained the foam, I made a board out of it. Then ABUSED IT like no other. Exposed to extreme heat and sunlight daily during this past summer. Left locked in my truck at work, in a board bag, windows up. Tied to my work truck with padding underneath it, exposed to the direct sun in the inland empire. Leave it in my front yard at home. It has turned yellow/brown, but hasn't gassed in the 9 months of its existence..... http://www.hdxsurfboards.com
I obtained the foam from a contractor friend. It is NOT artboard. It is NOT blue surfboard foam. I sell 7' blanks for $70.00. I have made appx. 50 boards out of this foam and haven't had any complaints, yet.... http://www.hdxsurfboards.com
........Can you shape your blanks with conventional shaping tools and a planer or sander,or is hotwiring required? .........Nice to see you here, hope all is good, see you at the beach, maybe tommorrow?Herb
Jason, WAAAAYYYYYYY lighter than clark or walker. Our average shortie is 5 lbs. Herb, conventional tools apply! I don't know when I'll be back in the water. Had an MRI on my spine today. I have a bit of a problem with my feet and the doc thinks it's from my L-4/5 area..... http://www.hdxsurfboards.com
Jeff I had a problem with my L5 and it caused pins and needles in my hands and legs.I went to a naturapath who fixed my pinched nerve and now I do exercises that I found on the internet that improves my back 90%.Stand with feet apart about 18" put your hands on your head turn your upper body around slowly as far as you can go and hold it for 2 seconds slowly turn in other direction as far as you can comfortably go and hold for 2 seconds do about 20 of these each night and morning and gives me great relief. I have some coming in soon. 12' x 2' x 8", if that'll work for you. Haven't used it for a paddleboard though... http://www.hdxsurfboards.com
Hey Jeff, Do you know if extruded foam you are expecting contains any polyethylene like I understand the Dow foam does?

Jeff, Do those blanks have a stringer? Also how is the weight compared to clark foam?
