...for kneeling purposes. Looking to kneel. make it ride like a surfboard fish/kneeboard/kneeling vehicle? Any thoughts on fin placement for the following waaaaay-widepoint forward wave riding vehicle (sponge!): *46inches long *23 or 24 or so inches wide *17.5 inch wide tail *Nose to widepoint 14.5 inches *Nose width 14 inches *And like most all bodyboards, a flat nose and what amounts to a small crescent tail *HOW MANY FINS???? *WHERE DO I PUT THEM???? *How far off the tail? *How far off the rail? *If more than 2, how far apart from each other? Thanks. You guys are probably design wizards compared to me! KneeloRider
Dude You might mention size of fins you plan to use, and how many DO YOU want on your board. Anywhere from one to 7 is acceptable. Put it where your knees and leg are pressuring. Amount of pivot is up to you. You don't want us to put them on for you, do you?
Ahem. Well...looking to probably put 3-4" fins on there--probably siding with three inch fins. NO....I don't want you guys to put them on there...but I did want some suggestions from knowledgable people before going to the local glassing place, which can do this, and getting them permanently put in there. Its to facilitate learning in steep conditions with a thick board...so I don't know where I'd be pivoting yet, and I imagine the pivot would be a bit different once the fins were in there. Somebody on surfermag said that they would put them 2-4 in. off the tail, and 2-4 inches off the rail. I guess sort of like a keel type fin, in a way. I would probably be looking at a 2-4 fin setup, most likely a 2 or 4, as you don't see many super-widetailed thrusters out there, or a ton of 3-fin (not thruster, tri-fin), kneeboards out there. Just looking for a starting point...thanks?...I'm new to this...
Go to rodndtube.com's MyPaipoBoards Forum. Swaylocks is for surfboards. http://www.rodndtube.com/paipo/forum/index.php
ok, there's some soft plastic bodyboard fins, mount with plastic screws like the bodyboard leash attachments. Length, about 2-3", length of base around 3-4". You punch through the bodyboard with a phillips screwdriver and there you are. Probably towards the rails would be best. Having mentioned that, I'll also mention that unless you weigh in at around 27 lbs it's gonna be utterly worthless as a kneeboard, difficult to impossible to learn on and a complete waste of your time. Even if you somehow did succeed in riding it as a kneeboard, you'd develop a style that wouldn't work with something more mainstream, if that term can be applied to kneeboarders in any size, shape or form. For kneeboards that work, try looking through http://www.blasthawaii.com/ http://www.romanoskykneeboards.com/ ( where I get mine) http://www.deanclearysurfboards.com/kneeboards.html plus search the archives and articles here for 'kneeboard' . There's lots of variety. Except converted bodyboards. hope that's of use doc..................
the only person who can tell you how to place fins is someone w/ exp looking at your board. cant be done through the internet.
