a few days ago there was a post with a very good 5'6" steve lis knee board template w/ the rails thickness etc...it was around 21 in wide and just under 3 inches thicknes, very full thickness, what would be a good choice for a blank to make this fish work-
the clark 6 '2" C-designed by Toby Sullaway- I believe*
The 6'2"C is a nice modern fish blank but at 2 7/8" thick, you'll be hard pressed to get a 3" board out of it. Afer skinning and sanding, more like 2 5/8" if you're lucky. The 6'9"A by Pat Rawson would yield a 3"+ thickness easily.
I checked the diagram and it stated 2.5 inches at thickest point. The blank john mentioned looks great for THICK fish though.
Hi Shannon, I've used the 6'2"C with pretty good results. I think John is right, though. If you are a beggining shaper or novice(like me) it will be difficult to get a 25/8 from a 27/8 blank. Mike S
I'm also looking at making this type of board (for my first). Don't have one like it so, always wanted one - so why not. Anyways, I'm 5'10" 195# so was thinking of a bit thicker. So I looked in the Clark catalog for the 6'9"A refered to above and didn't see it in there. Am I missing something? What about starting with the 7'3" and cutting down?
I found the 6'7"A and 6'11"A but no 6'9"A. Note: the "Blanks" tab on the top of the page is a subset to the "Clark Catalog" link on the left of the page. --4est http://www.foamez.com
Don't know... I see 6'9"A (Pat Rawson) on pg 28 of catalog dated 9/5/03. Says it was introduced Spring, '02. That's pretty recent - I doubt they would've stopped it already.
The catalog I find off the foamez.com site is dated Jan 15, 2002. You have access to a more recent catalog than what I found. Mine has a 6'9"H by Rusty & Rick Hamon on page 28. Where did you link to your catalog? I need to update my links. thanks --4est
Thanks for response. I checked again and found that the Clark catalog on foamez is not current. I found it on the clark foam website www.clarkfoam.com. I'm drawing my template in autocad (I'm a geek what can I say) I think like 6-4 x 3" thick, using scaled outline dims I found in archives. Think I'll make plywood fins.
Howzit Shannon, If I can find Steve today I'll ask him what blank he uses for the size board. I don't know if Steve knows about Swaylocks, I think I told him before. Maybe he'll make an appearance and answer some of your questions personnally. Aloha, Kokua
